I did a thing this weekend. In fact, I did one of THE things Dave Ramsey tells you NOT to do. Yes, I did it...And I’m OK with it.
I mentioned in a previous post that I am doing things a little unconventionally. Well here’s another example 🤷🏼♀️In case you missed it, I was in a car accident a few weeks ago. I was ok, but unfortunately my car was totaled. We opted to not get a rental car because after insurance fees I would be paying about $15/day for the rental, so we carpooled to work instead. It was a little inconvenient but it saved us about $250 in rental car fees. So there’s that! 👏🏼 After weighing some options for a car (lease vs buy used vs buy new vs buy something super cheap) we decided that first and foremost I need something reliable. My previous car had several repairs in the last year that required tapping into savings more than I would like. Also, we live in Kentucky...typically cold weather with little snow...but now and then we get some crazy weather like 16 inches of snow at one time, and my FWD SUV was pretty much useless. I was in favor of buying an AWD clunker car and SAVE, SAVE, SAVE...my boyfriend was in favor of leasing to ensure I got a car covered under warranty with cheap payments for a temporary fix. Instead, we went a different route.
If you agree or disagree with my decision, please save your time with the negative comments. The decision was made carefully and with the understanding that we would be facing a temporary setback in the beginning phases of this long #debtfreejourney
I purchased a used vehicle with very low miles. I got a much lower interest rate this time around through my credit union, an extended warranty on top of a manufacturer’s warranty, and the AWD vehicle I need as a healthcare provider who HAS to go to work rain, sleet, sun, or 16 inches of snow. I did my research and purchased safe, reliable and affordable, and did not sway from my plan. While I easily could have purchased a used vehicle and rolled the 🎲, I now have a warranty to cover me for the next 5 years. That’s a win in my book #debtfreecommunity #doasisaynotasido #temporarysetback #keepcalmandcarryon #debtfreejourney #donttelldaveramsey
