Why are chicken nuggets “kid food” and sushi “adult food?” 🍔🌭🍟🍣🍕🥗🌮🥘 Seeing all the comments from yesterday’s “half a hog head” supper, it got me thinking.... Why does EVERY KID MENU consist of pizza, chicken nuggets (or some variation), hamburger, and fries?? 🤔
It doesn’t start out that way, in fact, when they are babies, we feed them puréed vegetables and fruits (without salt or sugar!) and encouraged them to try all different types including those that we don’t like (Hello, Lima beans 🤮)! Then when they turn into toddlers, we limit them to the “kid foods” which are heavily processed with loads of Grease and Salt! 🤯 .
💭When we went to NY over the summer, family and friends were shocked that our children had such developed palettes and asked to eat at Korean, Thai, Greek, Lebanese, Japanese, Vietnamese, and Chinese restaurants! (Our mouths are still watering for the crab dumplings from Joe’s Shanghai in Chinatown! Yum!!!) We also get asked how we got them to eat all these different types of food, in which I usually reply, “they don’t know any different, because they eat what the Hubby and I eat— and I LOVE all food.” But, really, I don’t know why they like these foods. 🤷♀️ At our house we do make a big deal about dinner time and have 3 simple rules:
Rule 1️⃣ Our kids aren’t allowed to leave the table until everyone is done eating.
Rule 2️⃣ No one has to eat anything they don’t like, but they have to try it to make sure they don’t like it, especially if it is a new dish.
Rule 3️⃣No TV or phones— instead, we use meal time as a time to gather as a family to talk about our day, dreams, fears, etc.
Good or Bad, we also often celebrate milestones with meals too. 🤔 ❓❓❓ Do you think it is important to expose your children to different foods OR as long as they get their nutrition, who cares, Debbie!! ❓❓❓ #SummersTimes #notatrophywife #stillwantanaward #SummersPartyof5 #ilovefood #foodies #kidfoodies #chinesefood #japanesefood #lebanesefood #thaifood #vietnamesefood #koreanfood #greekfood #parentingtips #kidmenus #momshelpingmoms #foodie #dinnertime #dinnertimefun #tryallfoodfromtheworld
