Discuss? I am 100% against additives and preservatives and processed foods and all that jazz. And I see people on this diet eating bacon wrapped fried salami on a stick (exaggeration) and it makes me gag. It's just so bad for you and I feel like any diet you go on should be free of all the processed crap. I read this today and found it interesting. Personally I wouldn't go on this diet but to each their own! Fat loss food diary - while I normally eat my meals within an 8hr window (12-8pm), the timing of each meal is not important. The only thing consistent is that I normally have my eggs and mocha protein smoothie close together as I’m hungry by the time I start eating. - I used lean turkey mince (98% fat free) for these meals and it’s definitely one of my favourite sources of protein. Quick to cook, tender and tasty. 👌🏼 - The protein is interchangeable in all my meals. You can use what you like. I find roughly 120g per meal (raw weight) is perfect for me. - I choose to avoid most dairy but if you wish to include it, don’t choose low-fat anything... it’s usually a chemical shit storm - highly processed with things added to fix the taste and mouth feel. - Another thing I don’t recommend is canned foods in general. In terms of quality, I feel it’s the lowest of the low. 😬 - M1 - 3 scrambled eggs and stir fried Asian greens using a little organic butter, garlic, chilli and a splash of soy sauce and sesame oil added at the end. I don’t generally eat soy products but this is one thing I haven’t been able to let go of. If you have an alternative please comment below. - M2 - Mocha Protein Smoothie - (1 serve choc protein, 1/2 frozen banana, 4 walnut halves, 1 heaped tsp raw cacao, 1 tsp organic coffee, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, water and ice). Every ingredient is in this for a reason and it’s magic! 💫 If you are lactose intolerant choose a vegan protein powder or go for a whey protein isolate. - M3 - lean turkey pattie (turkey mince, Himalayan sea salt and Bragg’s organic sprinkle), steamed broccoli and sweet potato with a little organic butter. - M4 - Turkey ball soup 🙊 Standard soup base using salt reduced chicken stock, diced carrot, onion and celery, and turkey meat balls (120g turkey mince and 1/2-3/4cup cooked cold basmati rice and seasoning) cooked in the soup once veggies are tender. - M5 - Turkey bolognese on zoodles (spiralized zucchini). If you are not going low carb then use pasta (I prefer gluten free - non-bloating) otherwise you could use any green veg. You ask for advice. “Mr Nutritionist, can you please suggest a low calorie snack?” “Fruit of course” - says every voice of health conscious reason in the land... And that’s it. You toddle off in determination. - - You go to the shop. It’s fruit this time. But you want convenience. You see the dried fruit. You know it tastes sweet. You look at the ingredients. 100% fruit. You’re in. In your head, dried fruits are; easy to store, portable, taste nice and have a longer used by date. You begin horsing dried fruit at your desk every day like Oliver Twist on his first helping of grool. And you feel f*cking chuffed with yourself. - - The general advice isn’t wrong in the sense that [in isolation] fruit contains nutrients, fibre and hydration which benefit our overall health more so than a processed snack. The problem lies though, in the depiction of what state the fruit is in. For example, both sets of fruit in my graphic contain the same food and equal weight. Yet one side is drastically higher in calories and sugar than the other side. How? - - Well, it’s a very simple answer. If we take banana as an example; it gets 70% of its weight from water. Whereas dried bananas lose around 95% of water content, making them a far more concentrated calorie source. The same logic applies for any dried fruit. Essentially, per 100g, you’re eating the calorie and sugar worth of what would be a LOT more fresh fruit. That is literally how simple it is. - - Snacking on fruit is beneficial. But you still have to be smart about it. If fat loss or reducing sugar intake is your aim, you can consume a greater volume of food per calories when the fruit is fresh. Calorie - Surplus v Deficit. There are many Factors which influence Fat loss / Muscle gain 💪🏼 Calories are the easiest way to control, manage and understand. However, There are so many elements to consider not just calories as the only mechanism around Fatloss or muscle gain. We are not a machine with a slot to insert calories in. We do not work like that 🤖. —— Optimising sleep and stress management + digestive health + Cardiovascular + Muscle stimulation + Blood sugar regulation are just some factors which can throw your calories out of context —— Back to the food 🍳 Key differences for this meal. Left side. 4 eggs 1tsp coconut oil 200g Kale 150g Tomatoes 1 Avocado . Right - minus. 1/2 Avocado 1 egg 100 grams Kale —— These are Pretty simple ways to reduce calories whilst maintaining optimal nutrients keeping us full + fuelled with nutrients to utilise. Preserving muscle mass which is key 🔑 whilst keeping the body in an optimal state —— In fact, when you go on a calorie deficit it’s even more important to increase your micro nutrients to offset the calorie loss. Using low calorie high nutrient foods such as vegetables + fruit + organic meats + seaweed are key foods oppose to empty calories such as candy + donuts + pizza + soft drinks. Feeling like crap whilst in a Deficit from poor food choices is usually a reason why most yo-yo / rebound + poor relationship around food. Food for Thought before you think you just need to simply eat more or less for either outcomes. HEALTHY vs HEALTHY😬😬 (read this caption!!) - Let me just say that I am a BIG FAN of eating HEALTHY FOOD (of course😂). However, trying to reach any fitness goal (fat loss/muscle gain) by simple “eating healthy” can be a frustrating journey.. 😩 - Let me explain.🤔 3 years ago I didn’t know a single thing about calories or macronutrients. ZERO! So when I tried to go on a diet, and try to lose some weight, I would just start “eating healthy”. So I would cut out (what I thought was) unhealthy foods like bread, candy, chocolate etc. And only eat foods labeled as “healthy” (😭) - Guess what? It didn’t work. I didn’t lose any weight. So it was basically what I call a lose-lose situation (opposite of win-win😂). Because I didn’t get to eat the foods I enjoyed (🍕🍫) and it didn’t even make me lose weight🤥 - Fast forward to around January 2016, I started learning about calories and macros. And the fact that I could fit some chocolate or some ice-cream into my otherwise healthy diet and still lose weight.🤯🤯 because total caloric intake is the nr. 1 thing that controls weight-management (Not if the food is “healthy” or “unhealthy”) - So to wrap up this reaaaally long caption (sorry😅) I want to say that HEALTH matters a lot. But when it comes to losing weight, there has to be an understanding of calories. Because as you can see in the picture there can be a big difference of calories in two foods even though they’re both “healthy” !!🤷‍♂️ - If you read till here then I freakin love you! Fat loss is never a linear process, it's always a moving target. And sometimes it's very confusing. Weight goes down, you think you're making progress, then either it stalls or it goes up a little & then down again. Confusingly sometimes your body fat reading is lower but your scale weight is the same & you feel you don't really look that different either. We know that as we progress eventually weight loss stalls. Then what most people do is drop more calories or increase activity to get the process going again. Sometimes this is the right thing to do, but sometimes that's not necessary & something else is at play..... Then suddenly out of the blue, a noticable weight drop. So what's going on? What MAY have happened is what Lyle McDonald called the 'whoosh' effect. When you are successfully dieting, fat has been burnt off & the fat cells get temporarily re-filled with water, waiting to re-fill with fat. If at this point you continue to adhere to your diet, after a while they get the message that the fat refill isnt coming, so the water leaves the fat cells, this is when you get a sudden drop in weight. This isn't always the case, but is something to consider when your weight loss stalls, especially if you tend to suffer from water retention, so particularly females, but men too. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 점심에 먹은 방토마말레이드가 상한것 같아서 양배추피클로 대체해서 먹었구 케이크사고 집에서 콩물이랑 병아리콩 한줌목구 장어덮밥먹으러 갔다 (~♥˘▾˘)~♥ 간이 좀 많이 쎄서 차에 말아먹는게 난 젤 맛있었당 ㅎㅎ 새우튀김이랑 단호박튀김도 먹구 장어는다먹고 회도 아빠연어회 두점 뺏어먹구 계란찜도 중독성있는 맛이어서 배부른데듀 다먹어버렸다🤭 그렇게 먹구 집들어왔는데 다노샵에서 주문한 닭찌볼 안가지규 들어와서 다시 나갔다가 케이크 촛불 불고 축하하면서 아까 시장에서 사온 복숭아 한입하고 당케도 한입했는데 둘다 맛있었다!! 시장엔 무화과가 없어서 아쉬웠지만 일단 복숭아부터 먹어야지 ㅎㅎ 배부른데 운동하기엔 잘사간도 늦어질구 같규 귀찮고 땀흘리기도 싫어서 하체스트레칭이랑 골방교정 스트레칭하고 씻고 누우니까 두시가 다되간다,,어쩐지 너무 졸리더라 ⁼̴̤̆◡̶͂⁼̴̤̆ 오늘 하루도 큰 행복이었다ෆ
