W3D4 165kg 5x5 comp squat First set: Went in like a hyperactive child. No tightness, no control, safety bar height set wrong, banging off the rails, no lockouts. Last set: Calmer, tight, controlled, safety rails set at the right depth, lockout. Lesson: take your fucking time, treat every set and rep with the same respect, empty bar or not.

The last time I went for a heavy deadlift was probably 15 years ago when I was in high school, circa 2003. Last night we were playing around and decided to figure out where my 1 rep max is. I failed at 460lbs, though it wasn’t by much. I crushed this one at 435lbs. Found a groove on some of my bigger lifts...what I’ve noticed is that I perform and recover much better when I teeter totter my sessions. Meaning one session I go heavier and then the next I back it off. Trying to do two or more heavier sessions in a row tends to bust me up and improving performance is like pounding my head into a brick wall. Not to mention I feel every bit of my 47 years. Last night’s deadlift session I pulled 405x5 surprisingly comfortable, so felt confident to up load to 415 and pulled another 5 smooth reps. Decided to add 10 and ended up with a very controlled 425x5 with plenty to spare. Next session I’ll take it back down to 365-375 and get my 6-8ish reps. Not just teeter tottering the sessions, but also spacing them every 7-10 days has really helped as well. So in a sense...managing the demand a bit more intelligently. I know I need to be eager to push, but being over eager can definitely bite me in the ass. So next session I’ll back the load down and then the next heavier session we’ll see if I can better last night’s session...doesn’t necessarily mean heavier loads though...could be using the same loads for one more rep or getting the same reps and improving efficiency (better form and bar speed). I’m not too greedy...as long as I can move the iron safely...I’ll get my sustained progress. Hope you guys enjoyed getting insights into my own training. the last workout before Korean thanksgiving day 'Chuseok'. I challenged 235kgs which was heavier 5kgs than current PR. Result is.. I failed. Today I was not in bad condition because I did 220kgs x 2, 200kgs x 6 after failed. I thought and thought why I failed and I believe I find something. From next month I start to prepare for meet on November 4th. I am gonna remind what I found during preparing. 원래 스쿼트 할 계획이 없었다. 하체 근육이 상체에 비해 부실하다는 건강검진 결과에 자극받아서 조금 무리를 했다. 내 하체 근육량은 왜 발전이 없냐. 아, 전체 근육량은 37kg로 작년과 변함이 없다. 하루종일 자니까 컨디션은 괜찮았는데.... 235kg는 실패. 그럼에도 220kg x 2, 200kg x 6이 된 거 보면 235 정도는 할 수 있었는데 말이다. 4년 전 파워리프팅 시작했을 때 참 많이도 깔렸다. 지난 주도 깔리고 이번 주도 깔리고. 중량 좀 올라가니 처음 시작할 때의 서툴렀던 모습으로 돌아간 듯하다. 기술적으로 어떤 문제가 있었는지 발견했으니, 10월에는 피킹 프로그램 진행하며 개선하자. 그리고 11월4일 대회를. 스쿼트 후 데드 215kg x 2회 그리고... 마지막 사진은 다 끝나고 지친 모습 한컷. 삶의 무게에 눌린 마흔넷 아저씨. 핫핫핫. #짐인더하우스 #파워리프팅 #서울대헬스 #관악구헬스 #운동하는직장인 #스쿼트 #스콰트 #데드리프트 #deadlift #powerlifting #squats #squat #深蹲 #硬拉 #举重 #建力
