Aquaman (2018) : Arthur Curry learns that he is the heir to the underwater kingdom of Atlantis, and must step forward to lead his people and be a hero to the world. Well why don’t you look at that another surprise this year! When the first trailer landed on the Internet I was 100% sure this was going to end up being bad. But they actually pulled through, sure the movie is certainly no masterpiece but you know what I’ll take this over Justice League, Batman Vs Superman, Suicide Squad and Man of Steel any day of the week. What I liked mostly about this movie was the cast, I thought everyone did a pretty solid job especially Jason Momoa this was actually the first time where I actually liked the character Aquaman. This movie actually gave the character justice, I will admit the writing wasn’t exactly the best there were some questionable choices (like I’m not exactly sure why a Pitbull song was in it, cause it really did not fit at all.) the villains were a little mixed for me, while I did like Patrick Wilson as The Ocean Master I couldn’t help but feel he was kind of a generic villain in some areas, Black Manta I feel like should have been the main villain! The guy was badass Yahya Abdul-Mateen II did an excellent job with his voice so I was sorta disappointed to see him not get the biggest spotlight but perhaps they are saving him for a sequel. The action scenes were surprisingly solid and engaging, plus I really liked the filming as well! The story was also pretty solid, it definitely had it’s times when it struggled but as I said the movie pulled through. Overall I do think putting James Wan in the director’s chair was a really good idea, the guy is talented is this best movie? Definitely not but the movie is very entertaining and there’s some genuinely great stuff in it. This is definitely a step in the right direction for the DCEU and I really hope they continue on this path!
