When Stephanie Jade Arborn began dancing, she was always trained to view it as a sport because competitions made her take it more seriously. This was when she was a part of the All-Star world and the styles of dance were not taken as seriously back when she was doing it. Three years later, Stephanie began learning about a whole new dance world. She didn't even understand freestyle. "How is this not a routine?" she thought to herself, "There's no way they're making this up on the spot!" She was amazed! Shortly after that, Stephanie attended her first jam. Seeing these dancers battle was such an eye-opening experience. It helped her see that dancing was more than a sport, it was an art. She saw true feelings and emotions let go from different individuals. It's a feeling she still experiences to this day. When it came to the styles, Stephanie was introduced to them by Julie Johnson. She began training under Julie at Extreme Allstars and went through training in House, Locking, and, her personal favorite, Waacking. Out of all the styles she has ever learned, for some reason, Waacking just made sense to her. She understood the feeling behind it, the movements of it, and the confidence needed when performing it. It was a style Stephanie wanted to get perfectly, and she still does! When Stephanie is Waacking, she is able to completely zone out while dancing and just feel. She gets to be a completely different person. She gets to be a strong, fierce, confident, unstoppable woman. Stephanie is so proud to be herself when she’s Waacking and no other opinion matters! It's a feeling she wishes she had all the time. Freestyle is still a very difficult concept for her to grasp. She has always been trained to have a structure behind dance, and freestyle is just do. Just feel. Just let go. She is still not fully capable of getting to that place when she freestyles, except for when she is Waacking. Waacking introduced her to a new meaning of dance, and for that alone, she loves it more than any other style.
