💪🏼How do you balance eating healthy, exercise, and enjoying yourself while on vacation? This used to be difficult for me until I set up somebfood guidelines and at scheduled in excercise. I hear so much of how people are “going to go crazy,” “binge,” and “eat whatever and however” they want on vacation. I disagree with all that - to an extent. I used to do this myself: eat like crazy while traveling and not exercise. And then I’d come back from travels being disappointed with myself. I’d eat like a monk and work out like a mother-effer afterwards to “make up” for it. But I think this line of thought actually promotes a vicious cycle of binge-y like eating or yo-yo eating. It made me enjoy my vacation a little less in the back of my mind knowing the hell I’d have to pay for it afterwards.
❓ Why lose total self-control “while on vacation” only to come back from it hating yourself and immediately doing a detox or hard core diet or exercise? And even worse - feeling bad about yourself afterwards? The more selective I became about my food and the quality of it, the easier this has become. I’ve talked about it a few posts ago - if it is not the best of its kind, or has some kind of cool story behind it, is in a social setting/seeing friends or nourishes my body - I don’t want to eat it. I’d rather eat something that does my body or mind good rather than just eat mediocre food or large quantities of food “because I am on vacation or traveling.” And sometimes access to fruits/veggies or healthy foods is just not an option while traveling (I pack some key supplements!), but after approaching it with this mindset, I feel more in control and don’t feel bad or sheepish about myself when I return home.
😋 If I do want to eat something, then I will, but I give it a second thought about the after effects rather than blindly shoving it in my mouth “because vacation.” If available to me, I make it a point to get up in the AM and use the hotel gym to workout even for 30 minutes or in the evenings if there is free time instead of a nap.
