Today's curry was a bit of an experiment but I'm very pleased with how it turned out! Pork meatball and potato curry with dal, all on rice. I felt like cooking lots with this miserable Sunday weather and now there are plenty of leftovers for the week.
Day One: Yay! Navarathri begins from today.🤗 The first thing that comes to my mind during this season is always the Golu.😍 Golu is an arrangement of beautiful wooden and clay dolls. In Tamil it is Bommai Kolu, in Kannada it is Bombe Habba and in Telugu, it is Bommala Koluvu.🤩 Usually, the Golu arrangement is backed by stories from ancient Indian writings, Mahabharata, Ramayana and other. Purpose of such arrangement is to pass down & teach the morals, values, customs & traditions to the next generation.😇
Here is my first rice recipe for the season. Paruppu Sadham or Lentil Rice. It is one of the easiest rice prasadam recipes.😋
1. Wash the rice (01cup) & pigeon peas (0.5cup) and soak in water for 30 mins.
2. In a pressure cooker, add water (03cups), rice-lentil mix, turmeric powder (0.5tbsp) & salt (as required) and pressure cook it for 5 whistles. Let the pressure release naturally.
3. In another pan heat ghee (04tbsp) and add mustard seeds (0.5tbsp). Add few curry leaves, finely chopped chillies (02) & asafoetida powder (0.5tbsp) when mustard seeds begin to sputter.
4. Add the tempering to the cooked rice and mix it well.
5. Hot lentil rice is ready for serving.

I'm currently obsessed with dal. Tonight there was dal and rice and a quick aubergine curry and yogurt and ginger chutney. And I forgot about the quick cucumber pickle I made and left in the fridge - we're going to have that with leftovers!
Soul food, comfort food ❤️As I said earlier, simple is most of the times, The Best 😬😋

"Dal chawal is the most traditional Indian food....nutritious and delicious....let me tell u some amazing facts of combining Dal and Rice......it’s about Combining Proteins Proteins are made up of 20 different amino acids, most of which the body can manufacture for itself. But there are nine that your body can't manufacture, and you must get these from the diet. Those nine, called "essential" amino acids, are distributed unevenly in plant foods. As it happens, lentils and other legumes are high in lysine -- the amino acid that rice is missing -- while rice and other grains are high in the sulfur-based amino acids missing from legumes. Any combination of approximately 20 percent lentils to 80 percent rice has all the necessary acids, making a complete protein. So Eating Dal and Rice helps us get Protein that helps to maintain our Muscle mass 💪🏼..... keep following to receive Wellness Tips #dalrice #protein #healthymeal #protein
