Born in 1967 during the height of China’s Cultural Revolution, #GuoPei
grew up at a time when the rough cotton, utilitarian #MaoSuit
was the height of fashion. Her grandmother would recount her memories of the extravagant gowns embroidered with butterflies and peonies that women wore in the final years of the #QingEmpire
, China’s last imperial dynasty (1644– 1912). Guo Pei’s grandmother taught her to dream in colour and to express a beauty that could only come from the heart, which is how her love of fashion began. “I listened to stories with my eyes closed,” she recalls. “My imagination was beautiful. It’s always been with me.”
Discover Guo Pei’s magnificent vision and let your imagination soar at the Gallery THIS WEEKEND before the exhibition #CoutureBeyond
closes January 20. Fun for all ages!
