How’s this posture look? How’s this posture feel? TERRIBLE. This condition is called “anterior pelvic tilt” and will leave you with a whole mess of lower back and hip pains in addition to making it extremely difficult to strengthen your core once you have it. ❌This posture is often caused by 1️⃣excessive sitting & slouching 2️⃣ Improper technique or an unbalanced program 3️⃣ Trying too hard to make your lower back look like your ass in selfies (😂 but seriously how many times do you see people doing this for that perfect booty pic?) . HOW TO FIX: 1️⃣Learn how to properly brace your core by sucking the stomach & abs inwards, not pushing outwards. Focus on learning and mastering the plank, reverse crunch, dead bug and hollow body hold.2️⃣Loosen up those hip flexors and stand/move more often. Incorporate dynamic stretching and foam rolling into your workouts to release muscle tightness. 3️⃣Strengthen your hamstrings and glutes while keeping the core properly braces as you learned in the previous step. ✨ TRANSFORMATION TUESDAY ✨ So the picture on the left is from March 17th of this year when I first started adding personal training along with yoga. The picture on the right is from this morning and holy shit it has made a difference! So it’s been 5 months training twice a week with @guirilla and I feel amazing! Yoga is definitely my love and my home and it has definitely made me strong in ways that I never thought possible. However, adding in personal training has made a huge difference. I feel so much stronger and better about myself and my body, so thank you @guirilla for helping me along my journey! . . People keep asking me what I have been doing and this is it: Personal training twice a week, yoga daily if I can (but life happens of course), and I’ve been avoiding dairy since I started training as well as trying my best to eat clean. And it’s funny because I still allow myself to cheat, usually on Saturdays. But I am only human and don’t deny myself anything if I am craving it. But honestly, the better I eat the better I feel, so that even when I do cheat, my body craves better things now at this point. But you can also see how bloated I am in the first picture compared to the second and I swear dairy was a big factor in the bloating! You can also just see how frumpy I am in the first picture and so much more vibrant in the second! These few changes made a huge difference in my life and I am can see the difference in my energy as well! . . One of the questions I am often asked is when you can start to advance your core workouts post baby. Unfortunately there is no one date postpartum you pass that means you are ready to advance your core workouts - it all depends on each mom. It’s one of the reasons I hate the 6 week sign off. This is not a magical date. 😏 I know that sounds unhelpful, but everyone really is different so to just say at 2 months or 4 months or 10 months postpartum this or that exercise is appropriate would not be good advice. • So how do you know when it’s appropriate to advance your workouts? 🤔 If you don’t have any “symptoms” you could start to GRADUALLY increase the intensity - for example, by lowering the gradient of your planks etc, adding weight, doing more twists etc Think about: 🔹Do you have diastasis recti (abdominal separation)? Go to my story highlights or my YouTube for a video on how to test yourself. If you have DR you need to work on healing it first. Remember it’s more than the size of the gap and you also need good tension in your linea alba and be able to control your core function. 🔹 Do you have any pelvic floor issues - whether jumping, running or any level of incontinence, heaviness or leaking. The pelvic floor is an important part of the core so if that is compromised you need to see a woman’s health physio and work to strengthen it first. 🔹Are the core workouts you are doing causing any doming or coning? If yes that is a sign that your core integrity is still compromised. 🔹 Do you have lower back pain? That can be a sign of a weak core. Go to a Physio and get your posture and core checked first. 🔹 Any menstrual issues? Incontinence? Constipation? These issues can be caused by other factors, but check them out first. 🔹 How is your core activation during everyday movements? Any leakage when you perform them? Any coning/doming? Heaviness? Any discomfort/pain? These are signs of a core not ready for advanced core work. • Once you are ready to advance your workouts make sure you increase the intensity slowly and gradually. The medicine ball will keep moving so in order to keep your balance you will have to squeeze those abs very hard. Stay straight like a plank and when hitting with the knees bring the ball close to you as it was an opponent and you are grabbing them behind the neck and bringing him close to you as you fire those knees. Hit the ball like you mean it. It will not only make the core strong but it will help you with your balance while frying your abs. Go until failure or until you can’t hold the ball in place and you fall. Repeat as many times as necessary. I’d a minimum of a 100 reps per exercise. Got my run in this morning even though I had to be at work early. Keeping my miles around 7 minutes during training. That should really help getting my marathon pace of 7:14 per mile. I usually slow down toward the end of the race, so I try to get my first half done a little faster.

Ran a core time under tension segment and leg hypertrophy with my two clients, Rajiv and Larry. This progression proves to be challenging in application, requiring lots of core control to keep the movements crisp with neutral spine. The first movement is a bottoms up kettlebell farmers carry. This movement absolutely crushes the shoulders, grip strength and the core. The trick with this movement is maintaining a straight line without losing the kettlebell positioning. The next exercise is a handed bar twist. I frequently employ bars for core rotational movements to help people focus on turning with the shoulders instead of pulling with the arms. The third is another stability exercise I’ve seen used by an excellent strength coach Joel Seedman. He frequently uses the trap bar for stability exercises, and this proves to be challenging due to the varied ways the bar can move. The user has to control rolling from front to back and shake in the bar via grip. The last two are a standard medium tension sled power walk and a front loaded kettlebell squat. Both are excellent at taxing hip drive via lean angle during the sled and keeping the weight front loaded for abdominal control. #functionalfitness #strengthtraining #personaltrainer #coreworkout #circuittraining #bodybuilding
