The National Hook Up Black Women, Inc.'s literacy initiative is a grassroots movement established to help raise reading levels for students across the country. The goal is to attack the systemic reading epidemic. The plan is to not only be a resource for grade school students but for children in daycares/nursery schools as well.
Today the National Hook Up of Black Women, Inc. Nashville Chapter gave out hundreds of free books to children and their families in effort to promote and build family literacy, level the playing field, and provide children in need with equal opportunities. We plan to put a book in every home and support parents as the child’s first and most important teacher. We plan to increase literacy and promote a child’s successful transition into the educational school system through outreach and awareness to parents about the importance of reading readiness for children birth through 5 years of age.
On behalf of the NHBW Nashville Chapter's Literacy Committee, we would like thank to everyone who donated books to our "Reading for Life" Literacy program. Thank you to everyone who volunteered for our "Laps for Literacy" initative. We are looking forward to next year!! #NationalHookUpOfBlackWomen #NashvilleChapter #NashvilleTennessee #CommunityEvent #BlackWomen #AfricanStreetFestival2018

I’ve been working on spending more time with myself on the weekends. Giving myself time to breathe, reflect and care for my whole self. Today I spent some extra time enjoying my cozy bedroom, surrounded by pieces I selected to keep this space about me and free of any outside energies. For the first time in years I picked up a book that has nothing to do with business. I journaled about what I want in my personal life for the rest of the year. For those of you who know me, you know it’s so incredibly rare for me to take time away from work. You’ve at some point strategically taken me places without cell service or WiFi just to have me present. It’s hard to take time away from my startup but I know self care is just as important as the work I put in there. So friends, know that I’m working on stepping away and being more present. I hope you all are having an amazing Saturday and spending some time on self care this weekend 💛💗💛
We have “All Above Me” joining us all weekend. Free concert tonight at 6:30pm. Then they will lead us in worship tomorrow at 10:30am. We also have some people getting water baptized tomorrow morning during the service.
