Beauty = self-love
I am so on this journey. As women we are so hard on ourselves - and it is so common to ‘hate’ a part of ourselves.
For as long as I can remember I have hated my hair. It is baby-fine with weird waves, kind of frizzy, and it takes work for it to look decent. I need to wash it every second day (believe me, I have tried more infrequent washings, no-poo, dry shampoo, you name it) but my hair demands a lot - and (as I have always thought) for not a lot in return. My answer is a ponytail. Ever since my first son was born, almost 10 years ago I have worn my hair back 90% of the time.
My hair hatred peaked this past weekend at a wedding. I had dark circles under my eyes, a wimpy chignon and I felt totally unattractive. I felt unworthy to be a beauty doctor. I snapped at my husband, almost cried and felt less-than all evening.
Okay - STOP. We all do this to ourselves and it is really not okay. My poor body does so much and then I go and start telling it how ugly and unworthy is it - that is NOT beautiful at all.
What I really needed was some deep self-love, a bit of rest, and to recognize my own, individual beauty. Nothing is more beautiful than relaxed self-confidence - the glow cannot be replicated by any lotion, potion or beauty diet.
So I am making friends with my hair. It will never be a huge, voluminous mass of sexiness but (in all honesty) that might overwhelm my tiny face anyways! LOL!!! I gave my hair an egg mask this morning, blew it dry and I am just going to appreciate it all day.
So let’s all love our unique beauty!! That is what naturopathic beauty is all about!

Do you know what activated charcoal is? 🌑through a heating process (which YL does naturally btw), the charcoal becomes “activated” which means it can bind molecules to it super easily. This means:
🌑 dirt and impurities are drawn out of your skin 🌑excess oil is cleansed to help unclog pores 🌑it deep cleans and deodorizes 🌑your skin’s natural moisture barrier doesn’t get stripped away so skin is left hydrated and smooth ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🖤I’ve been waiting for this one for a while now and let me tell you, I’m going to be using this one on my face and body 🖤

What is collagen and why do I need it?
We all begin to see loose and sagging skin as we age or after weight loss or having babies – it’s inevitable. Unfortunately, skin elasticity is what holds our skin tightly to our face and body, and this elasticity depends on collagen and elastin, two components of the deeper layer of our skin called the dermis.
So why do we lose collagen and elastin as we age?
1. The high levels of free radicals that our skin is exposed to on a daily basis can damage the skin as well as result in the destruction of collagen. This can occur from smoking, over-exposure to the sun and pollutants that are present in our environment.
2. The destruction of collagen is not caused by aging. As we get older our bodies stop producing collagen and elastin. There is a big difference between destruction and production. However, the aging process can be rushed along by the things we do which will result in free radicals causing the problems. When this occurs, destruction of collagen can be a result of the things we are doing.
3. The less antioxidants we have the more damage can be done. Antioxidants are essential to prevent the destruction of collagen.
4. The collagen destruction can be due to a medical disorder. If you have a condition that does not allow your body to absorb certain vitamins this can result in a deficiency. Vitamin C is one of the vitamins the body depends on when it forms collagen fibers. Without this vitamin, the process is interrupted. In addition, copper enzymes are used in a combination of zinc, copper and amino acid.

The importance of exfoliating your face!
You may be cleansing and moisturizing or even using sunscreen too - BUT if you’re not exfoliating, your skin isn’t as healthy as it could be or glowing like your skin should be!
What is Exfoliation?
Exfoliation is the removal of the dead skin cells on the skin’s surface. Exfoliation can be performed mechanically, by using abrasive scrubs on the skin or chemically, by using scrubs that contain special kinds of aha's that dissolve and remove the dead skin cells without scrubbing.
Why is Exfoliation Important?
As we age, the process of cell regeneration slows down. This means that the body is slower to shed skin cells and generate new ones. When old skin cells start to pile up on the surface of the skin, it can leave skin looking dull, rough, and dry. Furthermore, the build-up of dead skin cells can result in excess oil and clogged pores, leading to blemishes and acne. Proper exfoliation removes the barrier of dead skin cells clogging the skin and uncovers fresh new cells below. This opens the way for moisturizing products to penetrate more deeply into the skin, which makes them more effective. In short, a regular exfoliating routine will leave your skin looking fresh and healthy.
What is the Best Way to Exfoliate and How often?
The best type of exfoliation and how often you should exfoliate depends on your complexion and the health and sensitivity of your skin. If you have extremely sensitive skin or severe acne, you will want to choose an exfoliating product and method carefully. Always ask a qualified therapist who can recommend the right exfoliation and recommend the current amount of times you need to exfoliate a week.
A light touch is all you need to help get rid of those dead skin cells. Any more than that and you’re likely to irritate your skin or even cause damage to your skin.
Don't wait till its too late to start the process of glowing skin, call Sugarplum Beauty Spa today to talk sbout the right exfoliation product suitable for you!
