Big Mahalo to Joy Sarsale Ibarra and Team! "What a beautiful day at Kahuku for a beach cleanup! It was a pretty clean day for Kahuku - no netting or ropes or even large marine debris that we could see from afar. With nets in hand we shifted our focus to micro plastics and collected 366 lbs today! Even though the total weight is low for Kahuku, we could still notice how much of it was produced by our plastic dependency: bottle caps, single use plastics, toothbrushes, bottles, and pens. All things we use every day, so be mindful of your plastic use! Thank you to our volunteers - our student and educator volunteers, families from Keiki o Ka Aina, members of the Coast Guard, the Herthers, Kathy A Shernak (we missed you!), Erynn Fernandez and of course the support of Michael David Loftin, Fawn D. Liebengood and Imma Palermo Sharkey. Kahuku is a much cleaner beach today because of your efforts.
Please join us at our next cleanup on October 20th!" #808cleanups #leavenotrace #stewardship #cleanbeaches #cleantrails #volunteer #cleanup #cleanups #himarinedebris
