In his book, "Vivien: A Love Affair In Camera," Angus Mcbean recalls Vivien's reaction to this photo and to the others from this session. According to Angus, Vivien was planning on sending a few of them to Hollywood. Vivien: They are wonderful, Angus dear. Just what I wanted. Have you read the book? Angus: The book? What book? Vivien: Why, 'Gone With the Wind,' of course. It's my bible and I'm going to play Scarlett if it's the last thing I ever do.You haven't read it? You must. When Angus left, Vivien gave him a copy of the book, "Gone With the Wind." On the inside, she'd written, To darling Angus, with love from Scarlett O'Hara. #GWTW #GoneWithTheWind #angusmcbean #VivienLeigh #BestActress #ClassicActress #Hollywood #ClassicMovies #ClassicFilm #OscarWinner #OldHollywood #Scarlettg

Remembering Jayne Mansfield. #Repost @vintage_stardust with @get_repost ・・・ Happy Heavenly Birthday to the fabulous blonde bombshell, Jayne Mansfield (1933-1967) 💖💖💖. I absolutely adore Jayne. “Will Success Spoil Rick Hunter?” (1957) still makes me laugh out loud no matter how many times I’ve seen it. A genius at self promotion, I think Jayne may have been ahead of her time...I mean she would have been great at marketing herself through social media had she lived in this day and age. Far from the ditzy blonde she often portrayed, she was an intelligent, educated woman. I hate that her life was cut so tragically short, especially since it left her 5 children without their mother 😞. I think it is wonderful to see all the success her daughter, Mariska Hargitay (1964- ), has had as an actress...I’m sure Jayne is looking down on her and beaming with pride 💖💖💖. #jaynemansfield #happybirthday #heavenlybirthday #happyheavenlybirthday #oldhollywood #classichollywood #vintagehollywood #classicactress #vintageactress #oldhollywoodactress #classicbeauty #vintagebeauty #oldhollywoodbeauty #blonde #vintageblonde #classicblonde #blondebombshell #theydontmakeemlikethatanymore

Remembering actress Mae Busch (1891-1946), who passed away 73 years ago today 😞🙏🏼💖. A native Australian, Busch’s parents were popular vaudevillians in their country. The family eventually headed to the United States and young Mae Busch joined them in performing around the time she turned 12. Her first confirmed screen appearance came in 1915. Working with Keystone Studios in the early years of her career, she famously had a fling with studio head Mack Sennett (1880-1960), which led to the demise of his longtime relationship and engagement to actress Mabel Normand (1892-1930). Some of Busch’s film credits include “A Parisian Scandal” (1921), “Foolish Wives” (1922), “Souls for Sale” (1923), “Flaming Love” (1925), and “While the City Sleeps” (1928). Abandoning her MGM contract in the mid-1920s, her career declined. She suffered some personal setbacks, including a nervous breakdown, but ultimately returned to the screen in several Laurel & Hardy comedies. In the last years of her career, she had a handful of uncredited roles in popular films like “Marie Antoinette” (1938), “Ziegfeld Girl” (1941), and “The Blue Dahlia” (1946). Busch was married 3 times and divorced twice. She had no children. Mae Busch passed away from colon cancer in 1946 at the age of 54 😞🙏🏼💖. #maebusch #rip #gonetoosoon #gonebutnotforgotten #gonebutneverforgotten #oldhollywood #classichollywood #vintagehollywood #silenthollywood #classicactress #vintageactress #oldhollywoodactress #silentactress #silentfilmactress #classicbeauty #vintagebeauty #oldhollywoodbeauty #silentbeauty #silentfilmbeauty

The daughter of actress/singer Consuelo Flowerton (1901-1965) and music conductor Dirk Fock (1886-1973), Foch was born in the Netherlands. Moving to the United States with her American mother after her parents divorced, she was mainly raised in New York. Foch was drawn to acting and studied at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. Her major screen debut came in “The Return of the Vampire” (1943) and she went on to appear in roles in films such as “Shadows in the Night” (1944), “A Song to Remember” (1945), “Johnny O’Clock” (1947), “The Dark Past” (1948), “An American in Paris” (1951), “Scaramouche” (1952), “The Ten Commandments” (1956), “Cash McCall” (1959), and “Spartacus” (1960). She received a Best Supporting Actress Academy Award nomination for “Executive Suite” (1954). Foch also worked extensively in television, having guest roles on episodes of programs like “Wagon Train”, “Rawhide”, “Burke’s Law”, “I Spy”, “Bonanza”, “Gunsmoke”, “That Girl”, “Hawaii Five-0”, “Barnaby Jones”, “L.A. Law”, “Murder, She Wrote”, “NCIS”, and “The Closer”. In 1980, Foch was nominated for an Emmy for her role on an episode of “Lou Grant”. In addition to performing, she taught acting classes at USC from the 1960s until literally the day before she died. Married and divorced 3 times, her first husband was James Lipton (1926- ), longtime host of “Inside the Actors Studio”. She had one son with her second husband. Nina Foch died from myelodysplasia in 2008 at the age of 84 😞🙏🏼💖. #ninafoch #happybirthday #heavenlybirthday #happyheavenlybirthday #oldhollywood #classichollywood #vintagehollywood #classicactress #vintageactress #oldhollywoodactress #classicbeauty #vintagebeauty #oldhollywoodbeauty #academyawardnominee #emmyawardnominee

Fashion Friday goes to Dorothy Dandridge! Considered to be one of the most famous African American actresses during her time, Dandridge would get her start as part of a musical group with her sister and a schoolmate named The Dandridge sisters. Eventually she would get her start in the movies with her first credited role in ‘Four Shall Die’. She would garner huge success with her role in ‘Carmen’ gathering her an academy award nomination for best actress. Dandridge would continue her career, with many ups and downs. She would be involved in activism with national association for the advancement of colored people due to racism in the industry. Unfortunately, Dandridge would die on September 8, 1965 at the age of 42 but she would leave her mark on the world with her lovely voice and beautiful smile. . . . . #dorothydandridge #carmen #fashionfriday #cinema #hollywood #movies #film #films #classiccinema #classicfilms #movie #movies #classicmovies #classicactress #classicactor #classicfilmstars #classichollywood #goldenageofcinema #hollywoodgoldenageofcinema #classichollywoodfilmstars #goldenageofhollywood #vintage #vintagemovies #vintagefilm #vintageactress #vintageactor
Joan Crawford with singer India Adams on the set of 'Torch Song' 1953. (Adams does the actual singing for Joan's character in the film.) 🎤 . Adams re working with Joan in Torch Song, from the 2008 David Del Valle interview: India Adams had nothing but praise for Joan Crawford as a professional and Hollywood star of the first rank. These two women bonded during the making of TORCH SONG and India has the letters from Crawford to back it up. The two women remained friends throughout the filming and afterwards as well. “If Joan liked you she did her very best to be of help and make suggestions regarding your career,” India told me. They were still in touch when MGM asked India to make a record for the studio, and then made a strange request. “MGM asked me not to mention a word about this album to Joan Crawford until it was in release. I thought nothing of it at time, and did as they requested. When the record came out, the fact I kept it from Joan hurt her feelings to the point that it ended my relationship with her.”

“The neurosis about cleanliness came very slowly. It’s going to take just as long a time for me to overcome it. When it was at its worst I never wore a dress, a hat or carried a bag that all weren’t sent to the cleaners instantly. Imagine having a bag cleaned every time I carried it! That was just plain silly, I know it now…I wouldn’t smoke a cigarette unless I had opened the tin myself. And I wouldn’t use another cigarette out of that tin if someone else had taken one. I washed my hands every ten minutes. I wouldn’t step out of the house unless I had gloves on. I wouldn’t touch anything unless I had gloves. Slowly, I’m getting much better about this. I’m not doing such foolish things.” — Joan Crawford‬ . Source: Katherine Albert, 1934 ‪Photo: 1927 . ↪️#joancquote

On the last day of shooting in Louisiana for #HushHushSweetCharlotte , the cast & crew pack up & leave the set—& town—with no word to #JoanCrawford , whos finished her scenes & has fallen asleep in her trailer while waiting to see if shes needed for additional shooting. An outraged Joan calls her agent to see if she can quit the film & is told there is no legal way out. Joan flies home to LA & has her driver take her directly to Cedars Sinai Hospital. Because Joan had told others that she was feigning illness to get out of the film entirely, Aldrich was in an even worse position. He reschedules scenes & shoots around her while shes in hospital. After her suggestions for her character are rejected, its announced Joan has developed pneumonia & will have to prolong her stay in hospital. Aldrich informs the cast & crew that production is temporarily shutting down. July 20.Joan returns to work. July 21.Joan feels weak & leaves at noon. July 23.Joan leaves at 11am. July 24.Joan leaves at 12:15pm. Aldrich hires a private det. to follow her. July 27.Joan reports back to work & leaves at 12:55pm. That day Aldrich, lawyers & insurers meet & call Joan's lawyer to explain the seriousness of the situation. July 28.Joan & Aldrich meet to discuss the situation. Joan explains her energy level is low after lunch; Aldrich offers her a long lunch. July 29.Joan works until 1:30pm, then tells Aldrich she has over-exerted herself. Aldrich demands she be seen by the company's insurance doctor. She angrily retreats to her dressing room & refuses to speak to Aldrich further. That day Aldrich & Fox exec Richard Zanuck agree to shut down production until Aug 3 to give her a chance to recover. Aug 5.Aldrich & Zanuck begin search to replace Joan, considering Katharine Hepburn, Vivien Leigh & Olivia De Havilland. Aug 25.Joan is replaced by DeHavilland. Production resumes Sept 9.Joan was seething when she heard Aldrich had replaced her. Shes quoted as saying: Aldrich knew where to long distance me all over the world when he needed me, but made no effort to reach me here that he had signed Olivia. He let me hear it for the 1st time in a radio release—& frankly, I think it stinks. . ↪️#jchhush
