Cider pressing (that's actually green grape juice; the rest of the day was spent on cider). Quarts and quarts and quarts are now in the freezer. #ciderpress #appleseason
Had so much fun at the cider press this morning! We are so blessed to live, work, and play together. I took very few pictures, but more than enough cider! Can't wait to try my hand at canning some this afternoon!

When we visited Nashville a while back a few people recommended trying @gypsycircuscider
if we could find it. We did, and we brought some back home. This one is called Tea Leaf Reader, and it's a chai spiced cider and part of their "Elixir Series." The aroma reminds me of cinnamon applesauce. There's apples and chai spices, mainly cinnamon and cloves.
The tongue agrees with the nose. This is like drinking a adult version of the little apple sauce cups you might have had in a school lunch. The apples are very forward and the cinnamon and cloves follow. There's some sweetness bright acidity that lead to a semi-dry, tea tannin finish. It's a well rounded cider that's great for this time of year. Also, I checked the bottom of the cup, there is no Grim to be found in this cider.
Come see us this Saturday, October 20th from 10-1 for our annual cider pressing! We’ll be pressing all morning and early afternoon. Bring your apples if you have extras you want to press- the more varieties the tastier the cider!! There will be plenty of tasty fall treats as well.
This is the last harvest of wild apples I made for the Carr's 2018 wild apple blend. With these 24 some bushels, we're up to 100 bushels of wild apples. Bittersweet to say itll be the last pippin haul, i could shed a tear. Big winds blew the leaves and all remaining apples off the trees over the past week. I think we had dregs of the recent tropical storms hitting New England, so I didn't even shake a single tree to get all these picked. All drops. Can't wait long to press them. Because we have had nonstop rain, the moisture in the soil has brought fruit rot on quickly, especially in understory drops likr this. But they're still beautiful, ground dwellers or not. We'reaiming for a semi-sweet to tame this bittersharp press blend.
Swipe over to hear my favorite sound!

Closing out the day with a new-to-me cider and cider company, @elementalhardcider
and their Blood Orange cider, courtesy of @letsgetcidered
- so thank you!
It has a light and refreshing citrus aroma. Similar to the smell you get if you squeeze an orange peel. I'd also like to note that it has very lovely color, even if that doesn't translate well through a screen. It starts out with orange like sweetness and acidity, the apples show up to the party and it finishes with citric acidity and a citrus oil bitterness that keeps it from being overly sweet. It actually reminds me of a grapefruit in that it has some sugar but is also butter. It's very pleasant by itself by would also play nicely with hops, maybe Citra, Amarillo and/or Cascade...
🍂🍁☺️First taste at the Burrville Cider Mill 🍎
Looking forward to a big apple harvest weekend. 🍎
