Working on LISTENING while I’m playing! Too often we play too many notes to CONVEY our thoughts but we don’t LISTEN while we play. Doing This could cause overload and dilute the overall feel of your song. What’s the theme of the song? What are the words? What am i trying to convey? What musical nuances can i uniquely implore to create a subtle yet powerful vibe that is congruent with the songs message? Or am i just trying to impress people with illegitimate, unnecessary, ancillary, ego-maniacal creativity?
I saw some acquaintances play last night on guitar who had some advanced knowledge of voice leading using chord inversions. Very inspiring. So I spent my afternoon today working on voice leading from the V chord to the I chord using chord inversions. It's a start! Going to see if I work the ii chord into this now.
