🔈Pull ups: - ❌ In the first part of the video you will see me performing the exercise in a NON optimal way for hypertrophy. Three major mistakes I see often 1- using momentum with my lower body to initiate the movement and to help get my chin over the bar, and 2- pulling with my shoulder girdle instead of retracting my scapula as I pull myself up and 3- not controlling your body weight on the way down. - ✅ The second part of the video shows a more optimal way to perform the pull-up. I am letting my back muscles do the work and they are initiating the movement instead of momentum. I am retracting my scapula as I pull my body weight and driving my chest up to add a mechanical advantage. I have complete control of the movement here, on the way up and down, which leads to more muscle fibers being hit. - ✅Part 3 is my man Ant. He has really improved his overall strength and his pull-ups numbers have gone up quite a bit since we started 😎. Please stop eating fast food 👏🏼. - 👉🏻 It is important to know that most pull up variations are going to target your upper back muscles including the rhomboids, traps, rear delts and teres AND not your lats. Many will confuse these muscles, especially the teres, for lats. In reality, the lower lat fibers will never get much, if any work when performing pull-ups, and the upper fibers may get a little love, but certainly not much. There are many different exercises / profiles that will target the lats much more effectively if set up and executed properly. These are important things to know if hypertrophy is your goal! - 🚨 Need help with how to improve your pull up game? Can you barely do one rep, or can only do a few shaky reps? This one goes out to all my coaches, trainers, and anyone helping people and trying to make a living. ⠀ When I first started training at golds gym I was there day and night. I learned very early on, if I ain’t there, no one can see you. And if no one can see you, how do they know you care. So I made sure I was seen. ⠀ Everyone at the gym knew me. I made sure of it. I said hi to every single person, and I built relationships that I still have to this day. I met some of my best friends there, and even met my wife @paulabphoto in the gym. Yes I was her trainer. But that’s a story for another day 😉😂 ⠀ I worked everyday in the gym, 7 days a week. I’d get in at 6am and stay all day until close most nights. And then I would go work the door at a local bar until 2 in the morning. ⠀ At the gym, I wanted to do everything. I cleaned the bathrooms. I fixed equipment. I picked up the gym floor. I covered shifts for any and everyone. I checked members in with a smile. I helped in any way that I could. ⠀ You might think none of these things matter when it comes to building your business. Well guess what. They do. Showing that you care is the ONLY thing that matters. You need to care about everything you do. ⠀ The point of this story is that you need to really care. You need to care unconditionally. And want to help people without expectation. ⠀ The reason I’m telling you this is because I believe in you. And I know you can be successful. ⠀ I’ve been at this for 16 years. I’ve seen a lot of people do things a lot of different ways. But they all had one thing in common: ⠀ They cared. And they showed it. ⠀ Show people you care about them. That you want to help them. Unconditionally without expecting a thing in return. Swam a mile today...because sometimes I just miss feeling like I worked really hard 💦. Anyone else 🙋🏻‍♀️?! And since busting out tempo paces on a treadmill isn’t exactly an option these days (🤰🏻) I’m doing the next best thing ... 🏊🏼‍♀️👊🏽. ... Thankful for this place. Thankful for a healthy baby and pregnancy. I was pretty certain that because I loved working out it would be one of the things taken away during pregnancy. I was certain that God was going to teach me about all my idols and that gaining 50lbs would be part of the process of letting them go 🙈. And so the day I found out I was pregnant I began to pray daily that He would give me His perspective on health, on body image, and on the privilege of carrying one of His little ones. He has done such a work on my heart and reminded me above all that His character isn’t to take away the things we love but to instead redeem them make them holy! 🙌🏽

I believe that the basics are some of the best movements you can do to see growth and gains in strength. That’s why I try not to do anything too fancy like the other “fitspos” you see on insta. BOSU Single Leg Glute Bridge is a great unilateral isolation glute exercise which will also incorporate core. This is an advanced exercise due to working one side at a time and having heel placement on an unsteady surface. This same exercise can be done by placing one foot on the floor rather than using the BOSU. Begin by sitting close to a bench, arms spread wide. This will be your starting position. 1) When performing this exercise, you’ll want to use your glutes to lift your hips in the air. You’ll also want to engage your core. Doing so will help ensure that your hips don’t drop out on the side that isn’t supported by a leg. 2) Lie on the floor with the BOSU ball at your feet. Place one foot centered on top of the BOSU ball. Your knee should be directly above your ankle. Keep your free leg in the air, with a slight knee bend if needed. 3) Draw in your abdominals as you lift your hips up towards the ceiling by primarily using your glutes to lift. Hold briefly at the top of the lift, squeezing your glutes. 4) Slowly lower your hips to the start position. Videocred @suzyq7504 #glutes #legday
🏋🏽‍♀️ My heavy leg day/booty day. 🍑 I typically don’t focus primarily on booty when I’m doing heavy legs but I haven’t done it in a while so I threw it in yesterday’s workout! 1.) First I start out with squats! I warm up with a set of 10 with just the bar. Then I move up to 135, a set of 10. Move up to 2 sets of 5 of 185. A set of 3 of 205 Set of 3 of 215 Then last a set of 2 with 225 2.) I do heavy lunges, first I did a set of 10 on each leg with 95lbs. #hipworkout today! . I find when I spend extra time strengthening my hips that I workout better. I can run better and I’m in less pain (knee, hip, lower back)💥 . What a lot of people don’t know, is that they may only have a base level of strength☝️ . They may only have enough strength to do their basic daily tasks, and when they begin a #workoutroutine they quickly find that a short jog, lifting 2 sets of 10 of lights weights, or doing a few squats and lunges is too hard and/or painful and they stop exercising 😣 . We need to prepare our bodies for more strenuous activities🙂 .
