to exactly 1 year ago when I was getting my head cut open! (No, it’s not just a super cool undercut, it was necessary! Lol) But, it’s almost long enough to fit in my ponytail now!! 🤗
I was living with debilitating headaches for about 10 months that only increased in frequency and intensity when I exerted any type of effort. When I would stand up, I would get a headache so bad that it would put me on my knees. My regular everyday life was becoming unbearable. Oh, and did I mention I was training for a show? It was beyond brutal.
I found out about 6-7 months after the headaches started that I had a congenital condition called a #Chiari
Malformation. My brain is literally too big for my skull, so it was herniating into my spinal column. (yes, I’m just sooo smart and my brain is sooo big that my skull couldn’t contain everything!🤣) I figured, I can’t change it, so I need to find a way to deal with it. So, I found a Specialist and scheduled the procedure to alleviate the pain and headaches. They removed part of my skull and put a “patch” in the covering of my brain to allow for more/better flow of spinal fluid.
This was the absolute worst pain I’ve ever felt in my life, but I would do it again in a second. I’m 1 year headache free (minus the post-op headaches, of course) and looking forward to a healthy prep for my next show!
I still get light headed at times when I exert too much energy (hello, PitShark) or stand up too fast, but I’ll take that over those headaches anyday!! I’m so grateful that I was able to have this procedure done and that I have such a great family who came to take care of me. I’m also so thankful for my amazing clients who were supportive and understanding with me coming back to work as slowly as I did.
