Staying on track whilst eating out 🙋🏻‍♀️ . Lovely night stay at @fairmontstandrews for my fiancé’s 30th 😬🎉 . I’m 1 week out from @pca_official London but that doesn’t stop me enjoying life ☺️ (something I’ve struggled with on previous preps)... For breakfast this morning the staff kindly made me a 3 egg white omelette (50ish calories) and I brought my own 2 slices of @hovisbakery Nimble bread (50 cals per slice). Roasted veggies to bulk out meal, no butter and I equated calories for cooking oil 👌🏼 . Then swipe to see dinner last night... grilled king prawns (60 cals shelled) with two side salads 😆 When getting sides, I ask for no dressing and no buttered greens so there’s so sneaky calories 🙅🏻‍♀️ . Then when my partner ordered room service, I had my 199 calorie @phdnutritionuk protein bar with a low calorie chocolate orange Options hot chocolate 👅 . Prep life vs Social life game strong 😎 . There are a few myths out there in the fitness industry. One is how much calories extra you need to maintain muscle "oh he has so much muscle he must have to eat loads to maintain" not necessarily. Maintaining doesnt require as much as u wud think, if your looking to grow and build more muscle u will need to eat more (still not as much as everyone thinks either). It has a difference of around 2 blueberries per kg of muscle but what matters most is how much training u are doing and how intense. If u are burning up 400calories per day more than someone else through exercise u will have to replace that yes but its not just because u have 1kg extra muscle. Track calories every day and get an understanding of whats going into ur body. You might be surprised. Main was chicken & veg with a mushroom & Sherry sauce. This isn’t a bad thing but it’s something that needs to be considered for an inactive person! (Research shows that’s majority of us!) 🏃🏻‍♀️🚶🏻‍♀️ ⠀ I’ve created this post to show you that not all yoghurt and muesli options are created equal. ⠀ It is important to remember that granola and toasted muesli are higher in fat because of the way they are prepared. Also clusters are usually higher in added sugar....something is holding them in a cluster, and that something is sugar 🤷🏻‍♀️. Check the ingredients list to make sure sugar (and its various forms) isn’t one of the first three ingredients. ⠀ Flavoured yoghurt really isn’t doing you any favours! Swap to a no added sugar option whenever possible OR better yet just stick to plain natural yoghurt! ⠀ I’m not say the right portion is the one to pick, I’m just simply pointing out that with similar volumes the overall calorie load is very different between the two bowls! On January 2018 I decided it was enough I made a promise to myself to get my shit together and start caring about myself. I had a goal to weigh 150 pounds, which at the beginning of my journey seemed impossible. I doubted myself and I thought I would once again give up. I started by tracking my calories on @myfitnesspal and having a calorie deficit while getting myself back into the gym. I started noticing results quicker than I ever had in the past. My pants were fitting me loose. My body wanted change for the better. A couple weeks into my weight loss journey my family went to visit me and they noticed the difference. But the reality is that this perception is naive. - - Body composition: The reality is; when it comes to fat loss, instead of type of juice, it’s the calorie amount that determines body composition. Therefore 190 calories of orange juice is literally the same as 190 calories of orange fanta. It will have the same impact on body composition. - - Overall health: When it comes to optimal function, nutrient consumption is the primary area of focus. Therefore more nutrients in orange juice mean it’s a better choice than orange fanta for this reason only. Although, the more concentrate in the juice as opposed to 100% actual fruit juice, the more the nutrients diminish... - - Sugar: 45g of sugar derived from fresh fruit or fruit juice is literally the same as 45g of sugar derived from any source, by any means. At the end of the day that 45g of sugar will wind up the same way if you drank it from fruit juice or a fizzy drink. But the small amount of fibre in fruit juice may satiate you for longer, meaning you may be less likely to over consume liquid calories. - - My advice? If you are trying to lose fat, hydrate from water (0 calories regardless of quantity), and eat whole fruit with fibre in abundance. I'm back! Sick as a dog but back! Trying to get some decent fuel in me for a day of planning and resting as I'm feeling pretty awful! A few months ago I started a slightly different journey but it really wasn't for me- the "weight loss plan" was unrealistic and caused me stress! Back now after a little holiday and I'm ready to refocus with some healthy eating, keeping fit and healthy and in a calorie deficit to get to where I want to be! But as you can see they pack a huge amount of calories and sugar!! . Fruit has its place in a balanced diet but it’s extremely easy to over eat and something I’m personally really careful of and mainly stick to a small amount post work out . We like to idolize and demonize most things. We crave affirmation that what we believe in is universally correct. An example can easily be found in those idolizing their favourite sports team, whilst demonizing that team’s bitter rival. Yet if put into non-emotional context, both teams are merely trying to beat each other by the same means. - - Food is no different. We idolize some foods because we believe them to be ‘better’ for us - we want affirmation that our consumption is correct. We demonize other foods because we believe they are ‘worse’ for us - we want affirmation that consuming these foods is incorrect. But in isolation, no food is correct or incorrect. - - The immediate problem here is that ‘better’ and ‘worse’ are general descriptions and their meaning is vague at best. More use will be gained by assessing overall diet and lifestyle in relation to individual choices. - - Beneath the grand, salubrious and often unsubstantiated beliefs, lie facts. Facts about actual nutritional value of food, its worth in energy and how it fits in with the bigger picture or specific goal. - - In this example we have avocado on brown bread and Nutella on white bread. The former is often idolized , whilst the latter is often demonised. Yet looking in factual objectivity, consumption of the former means consumption of more nutrients, marginally more fibre and more calories, whilst consumption of the latter means less nutrients, marginally less fibre, but less calories. Therefore the avocado toast may be a good idea if the goal for that snack is to consume more nutrients, whilst the Nutella toast may be a better option if calorie reduction is the goal. - - Eating any food should be an enjoyable process. But it should be done in a place where feelings of ‘good or bad’ are replaced objectivity, reality and ease. Woke up today intending to run again. It’s pouring with rain ☔️ 🌧and my legs are aching badly. I started beating myself up about not going then I looked at my week. 4 5ks run, walked everywhere I could and have hit all my macros this week. I only need to do 10k steps today to hit the 105k target and I can do that at home easily. Sometimes it’s ok to give yourself a break and acknowledge you are still working hard. This time week I have my 5k race so will be working hard to run 5, 5ks next week.
