🌏WE HEAR YOU
The web of life both cradles us and calls us to weave it further.”— Joanna Macy
This was the altar we created for the EarthBody Institute’s Winter Soulstice Gathering, with items from the local land and in-season fruit.
It was a wonderful, beautiful, and intense gathering. It was nourishing reconnecting with old and meeting new people, growing our earth community, in widening circles.
In addition to poetry and honoring the dark and new light of the season, we dove into the hard emotions around the California fires, ecosystem collapse, climate, political fascism, disconnection, isolation, etc., by doing a ritual based on Joanna Macy and the @WorkThatReconnects
called the Cairn of Mourning.
The center circle was open in order to hold everyone’s grief, anger, hope, etc.. We coupled up to share with each other what comes up when we consider what is happening, then each person placed a rock in the center while expressing with words or body what was alive for them, after which the group says We Hear You.
The idea here is that honoring the pain is an important process in healing and moving energy. Pain is actually the earth’s feedback because we are in fact intertwined, we are not separate. We hurt because we love.
In everyday life, we don’t often have safe intentional spaces to share our true feelings & thoughts, yet we’re all in this Great Unraveling/Great Turning together, and we are more alive and empowered afterwards going forth.
So Let us not be numb, it takes courage to feel it all, but we’re not alone, let’s crack open and let our tears nourish the earth. Gaia needs us.
