While I was working as a storyboard artist on the Avengers Assemble cartoon I started to wonder what the Avengers could look like if the show was less focused on realism and safety and more open to fun and imagination in its design and approach.
I think, and I'm no expert, but what appeals most to kids about Hulk is that he is a monster that fights for good. So when you put Hulk in a cartoon for kids you've got to embrace this monstrousness. The danger! Adults I know are way more interested in a tame Hulk, where he's big and lovable and best of all articulate in his thoughts and actions! But this cartoon, I would argure the very concept of Hulk himself, isn't for the adult world. Let him loose to entertain kids Marvel! Make cartoons for kids!
Actually if Marvel needed a basis for how to handle Hulk I would point them towards the Marvel movies! Not just for Hulk but for all the characters! The movies are really fun and possibly the best adaptations of the characters. Dropping the baggage of the comics and honing them back to their essence.
Man it would have been awesome if Marvel animation wanted to make the cartoons more like the movies!
