Yay for the weekend!
The boys and I spent this rainy day In our pj's (yes all day!) playing games (fighting over who's turn it is), making cupcakes (fighting over who gets to kick the spoon), eating cupcakes (fighting over who gets the biggest one), playing Lego (fighting over who gets the coolest pieces) etc. It was a wonderful day interspersed with bits of sibling rivalry.... no wait, sibling rivalry interspersed with a wonderful day. Yeah that's it. #brothers #instakids #pjday #lego #kids #bakingwithkids

Today my oldest went to jiu jitsu and with each class they have a word of the day and talk about what that word means.
Today’s word was “Healthy” and I loved how Mr Shane the instructor explained it to a class of 4 year olds.
He said there were 3 ways to be healthy,
1 - what we put in our body with healthy foods and water,
2 - exercise like when they come to class, and
3 - to keep our minds positive and think about how good they are at things, feeling proud of themselves and how happy they are when they do that.
And it really hit me when they were doing this 30 second meditations about things that made them happy, that while I always try to be positive and set that example we don’t really talk to our kids about thinking positive as often as we should.
Of course when they are saying “I can’t” or something negative about themselves we talk to them about it, but nothing more.
It also made me think about how many adults have such a negative mindset because we have just been that way so long and when we decide we need to change its hard.
If we would have specifically been encouraged to think positive at 4 years old would we be having such a hard time seeing the positive as an adult?
So today I would love all of parents out there to think about this and ask yourself the question I immediately asked myself, am I encouraging my kids to think positive about themselves or am I just focusing on their daily actions more than helping them find a positive inner voice?
I know I want my boys to be confident, self loving, and positive as they grow up and I know it’s my job to help them find and keep the right mindset for that and not have to learn it when they get older.
