BREATHING is my super power 💫 Pilates exercises are guides with breath. The breath allows for alignment, decompression of the spine and body awareness. It relaxes tight muscles, body tension and helps the mind focus on the physical. Different emotional states are also associated with different breath patterns. As I prep for baby, one of the most useful things I’ve done is focus on BREATH. I’ve learned the 3 styles of breathing during labour in hypnobirthing class + meditate daily. Guys... breath is everything. It alone is making me feel like I’m {almost🤪} ready for the fun to begin + brings me back into the moment. Let me share with you my fave breath so far—you can totally apply it to any part of your day to re-centre yourself and get to a place of calm. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Inhale for 4 (you can rest one hand on the chest and one on the stomach). Exhale for 8 (as you exhale you should feel like your hands are coming/folding closer together as you release all the air). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This alone has been a game changer and the breathing I go to often these days (especially while meditating or when I’m feeling overwhelmed). Ujjayi (pronounced oo-jai) widely translated to "victorious breath". Just doing my annual set of abs 😅🤣 - As much as I joke about direct abdominal training being a waste of time, there are some ab movements I do actually rate, providing they are executed correctly! - The hanging leg raise being one of them ☝️ - 1️⃣ Grab hold of a pull up bar (you may have to climb up to it if you’re as tall as me 🤦‍♂️😂) 2️⃣ Ensure your arms are fully extended. 3️⃣ Take a deep breath in so that your belly expands. 4️⃣ Fully exhale as you begin to raise your legs up just above hip height. (This is super important if you want to get the most out of each rep) 5️⃣ Slowly descend your legs back down, not allowing them to swing behind you. 6️⃣ Take another deep breath in on the descent before repeating this process. - If you really emphasise the breathing technique, it won’t be long before your abs are on fire 🔥 - If you’re struggling to stop yourself from swinging around, start with knee raises as opposed to straight leg raises until you gain the strength and stability in your midsection, then progress to this. - Ps. Not sure what the guy in the background was trying to achieve with his one rep 😂😂 but I’d aim for 3-4 sets of 10-20 reps or until your abs are cramping 😅 - What’s your go-to ab exercise?

#TimeOutTuesday • This will only take 45 seconds but you can do it for as long as want: • 1. Sit in a comfortable position. 2. Close your eyes. 3. Take a deep breath in through your nose allowing your belly to push out. 4. Exhale gently allowing your lungs to empty and your belly to come in. 5. Make your exhalation twice as long as your inhalation for more relaxation. 6. Repeat as many times as you’d like. • This breathing technique will help you to relax by quieting your parasympathetic nervous system.
