During this journey to Brazil and Argentina, we were fortunate to have an Honors Program alum, Stephanie, join us on our adventure. Stephanie graduated from the Mount in 2013 with a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology with an emphasis in Medical Sociology and a minor in Gerontology. Upon graduating from the Mount, Stephanie attended the University of California, Los Angeles where she received her Master’s degree in Social Work in 2015. As this journey comes to a close, we ask Stephanie to share her experiences as an Honors Program alum.
Stephanie shares, “Meeting and traveling alongside current Honors Scholars was so refreshing! It's inspiring to hear their goals and their already hard-earned accomplishments. It's what I feel #MSMUnstoppable
is all about. While not all the Honors Scholars are Sociology or Social Work majors, there was clearly a thread of wanting to make social change, being agents of change, and having a curiosity for other people and their experiences. Self-reflection, self-care, empathy, and cultural competence are crucial in my work as a Clinical Social Worker and what I wish is for everyone to take the time to explore. I feel Dr. Melendres has a way in creating a space to explore these traits with a group of intelligent, respectful, and curious women that I don't find with my other travels.” #MSMULA #MSMULAHonors #MSMULAHonorsAlums #MSMUnstoppable #MSMUGrad #MSMUWomen #UCLA #MSW #SocialWork #RiodeJaneiro #Brazil #Travel
