Midway through my box jumps I had remembered my middle school days when I had injured both knees to the extent that I had to quit all sports that had high joint impact on your knees. I had quit football, soccer, and basketball and continued to follow my passion with baseball which I had played 3 seasons out of the year at that time.
By my junior year my knees had recovered greatly, but still had a lot of work to do. The end of my junior year I had the intention of playing football my senior year of high school, so I started lifting with the team. I will not forget one of the first times when I had tried squatting with 95 lbs on my back, my knees had given out and I had wrapped up squatting for that day. This would not keep me from squatting because I never have looked at failure as a reason to stop, but a reason to continue. I had continued to squat each week. As my legs had strengthened the pain would become more manageable.
To this day at 22 I still get knee pain, but it only occurs during times in the winter and some storms. During these times when I experience the knee pain I really focus on warming up more and continue to train legs more often during the week to keep the blood flowing, to help keep my legs loose.
I have been so busy coaching football that I haven’t been able to make time for myself and get a workout in. When this happens it’s important to use compound movements which use lots of muscle fibers. Specifically, your large fast twitch muscle fibers which are our biggest . We all get busy, but let’s maximize our time in the gym.

Okay. This is the tallest box jump I both attempted and succeeded. I took a video first to see if I cleared the 30” and once I realized I did clear it, I realized I COULD jump it, which means I HAD to attempt. Tallest box jump to date.
