Finally got this big #biology
boi.. absolute U N I T
I’m not sure that this is a thing that happens at other schools, but today we had our PhD white coat ceremony, so I guess that means grad school has officially begun! -
Key take away from day 1: spending three years in health policy means I have forgotten SO much about biology. Oops 🤷🏻♀️
Sometimes snorkeling turns into a science lesson.
You walk and your mind walks too. You catch yourself having thoughts you didn't even realise were relevant, and you keep wandering on. Then, something catches your eye, you turn the leaf and can't help but gasp. Such a wonder, such perfection, such beauty and it all came from natural selection.
When you see a species like this it's hard to understand how it came about. But if you get the chance, look carefully at multiple individuals of the same species. You'll see that just like us, there is a huge amount of variation between them. Some traits will do better than others and as such be passed through the generations. Over time this 'survival of the fittest' causes species to change and become these incredibly well-adapted organisms.
Now don't get me wrong, that the species we see today are somehow superior to those in the past. No, a species from one million years ago is just as well adapted to it's environment as one we see today. Natural selection means that as the environment changes, species change with it. So that no matter where you look in time, you can be constantly amazed at how perfectly a species fits into the life it lives.
Optunia is one of my favorite cacti genus. I just love the way the paddles grow. I recently picked this babe up from a local nursery and re-potted him in this square ceramic pot. A little different from my norm, I always tend to gravitate toward classic terra-cotta 🎍
It doesn't matter how high or low your IQ is. What matter is the will, dedication and determination in a individual to open those pathways. The faster your neurons can travel to key components to take in knowledge, able to analyze it and have solutions. Practicing and training your mind body and soul you strengthen it. It'll become easier through time and the right mentality.
They say normal people are followers. Smart people are guided through books and play life by textbook. Intelligent people are able learn and than articulate solutions and skills in their own way. Geniuses is entirely different monster.
We are all smart and unique. It is fine to be normal. But it is up to us to challenge ourselves and discover what we really want and have inside us. A special person is born everyday. Incremental steps are leaps.
Starting from within on good habits the bad habits will dismantle from the good habits and change. Let your mind be vibrant. -
We have dopamine a chemical reaction in our neurological system to our transmitters through feeding our needs. This brings us in a good mood. In any case this is not the best source to achieve happiness. As dopamine is short lived.
Serotonin. In simple terms are long term goals. Seeing results. Maybe going to the gym. Starting a family. It's not easy but pays off much more than dopamine. This is what you call happiness. Doing what matters.
