If you close your eyes, and have a finger hover close to the space between your eyebrows without touching; you will feel a tingling presence. If the finger makes small spirals, you'll feel the direction of this circling motion. The bindi represents and sits on your third eye chakra, the 'concealed seat of wisdom.' When you wear a bindi, you symbolically decorate your third eye with the entire cosmos in itself - Bindi or bindu as a word dates back to the hymn of creation in the Rigveda; it is considered the small dot at which the creation of this universe began - a bindi is the cosmos in it's unmanifested state 🌼
A picture of an Indian woman is incomplete without this step of the "Solah Shringar". This chakra isn't metaphysical hullaboo; it relates to our pineal gland; a light sensitive gland (why you sensed with your eyes closed) that regulates sleep and waking up, and is also the production site of of a psychedelic substance called dimethyltryptamine, the only known hallucinogen endogenous to the human body. That would be something fun to unlock, now won't it?
My favourites are red and black bindis ❤
What is your favorite kind of bindi? Big, small, crescent, Komalika style, gem encrusted? Comment below!
There are times when I mingle with people like I have known them for ages and sometimes I become a total recluse. With Durga Puja now over, there usually is supposed to be a sense of gloom after several days of fun and community gatherings. This year though, I feel a sense of calm. I read somewhere, calmness is stronger than the sense of peace. Peace might sometime be a method some people use to avoid problems. But calm is being able to stay fixed in your mental state of non-reaction no matter what goes on around you. I see changes in myself over the last few months. I won't call them right or wrong, good or bad, because those can be relative to how people perceive. I have learnt to let go of situations, surroundings and people not meant to help me in my purpose, the larger scheme of things, whatever that be. Everything that goes around you, teaches you something. Isn't that reason enough to be thankful? 😊...It's all about how something or someone makes you feel that will give the hint. Trust your instincts. Wisdom, by the way, is one of the traits of the Divine Feminine that we worship during Durga Puja 😊
This pic was taken during Durgashtami, the 2nd day of Durga Puja. I had been running a temperature thanks to Mother Nature ringing the bell calling for season change, but that couldn't deter me from popping a paracetamol and go about pandal hopping with my trusted friend - Nik (Nikon) 😊. Clicked this just after I had got back after "Pushpanjali" - floral offering to the Goddess Durga.
