This post is for the dancer in me. This is my sister and a very talented dancer. @apoorvaupadhyay221
I just follow my sisters and I become better. Having the guidance of my Guru, dance was never about delicate soft movements for us. It was an amalgamation of all the emotions that are there, the Navarasas. One of the things that I have been wanting to write is about the cliched mindset about feminine and male version of dance and the general notion of how a girl should behave or carry herself. We were taught powerful dances and well as the soft ones. I never realized that we were actually being freed from the norms of the society. Tandava is not just what Shiva does, it's the Ardhanareshwar. Very aptly depicted by one of my friends @oneboy.dance
a few months ago.
Swipe to the left and you will see a glimpse of where I started. Also, a few of the people that I love, who are so selflessly dedicated to this field that I can never be. @vpm_marar
From having two left feet to what I am today it has been a long journey. Only my Guru was capable of carving out a dancer in me through his strict vigilance. His 'danda' was his chisel. That fear of doing a mistake or taking a wrong posture in front of him used to drive us to our limits. The newer parents who are so protective about their children will never know what magic the fear of getting scolded or even hit for the right reasons can do.
