Thank god for Monday’s sometimes. cause I need a reset for sure. Less than one month until spring break. & although I don’t have set goals to look a certain way by then, I’m trying to crack down so I can be feeling great and enjoying my vacation. ☀️🌴

Happy Monday y’all 👋🏻 !!! Is the bench press a part of your daily gym routine? Stuck in a rut and what to gain some serious power? That’s cool, time to switch it up grab some dumbbells and blast those pecs with the dumbbell bench press 💪🏻👍🏻 There are several advantages to performing the dumbbell bench press over the traditional bench press.
First ☝🏻 among them is better range of motion, the deeper you go the more you work the joint and all of those pesky stabilizer and secondary muscles. Second to me is safety and injury prevention, as all of my athletes/clients can attest I’m a stickler when it comes to spotting and doing it properly. This is where the dumbbell bench comes in, of course use a spotter when you get to the more difficult sets but bailing out is much easier with dumbbells than a barbell. As a (somewhat) unilateral movement the dumbbell bench will prevent any one-sided dominance you may have on your bench and force both pecs to work equally.
How I set my athletes/clients up when dumbbell benching:
Bench - parallel to the floor for this movement, make sure head, shoulders and butt all touch the bench
Feet - I am not a fan of putting feet on the bench for any movement (probably because as an intern if you did this you wouldn’t be back the next day 😳) keep those feet on the floor to generate all the power you can for the press
Starting position - press to full extension, palms away and wrists flexed, I like to walk the feet out so I feel tension through the hips. Keeping the core tight generate as much power as you can from floor through you feet to the top of your head!
Bottom position - take a deep breath in as your arms start to descend. Palms will rotate slightly in (roughly 45°) as bells finish right outside the shoulders. Strong breath out as the ascent begins back to a fully extended position.

I've been sick for over a week but I'm back at it today! It's week 5 of BBG, and I'm getting arms and abs out of the way early because Kayla is not messing around with this week's workouts. 🙅🏻♀️
I really enjoy doing mountain climbers ⛰ which makes the push up part as lot easier to deal with. I can't do a full push up (or even close lol) but my little baby push ups are getting better 💪🏻👶🏻
