Do you like seeing this side of Batman?
One trait of Batman’s that I feel like people forget about too often is his kindness and compassion. He may present himself as cold and emotionless, or angry and vengeful, but deep down he has a good heart and just wants the best for the people of Gotham. This moment really showcases this side of Batman, and he’s able to identify with the story of these two kids.
This whole issue is really good and is a great study of Batman’s character. The premise revolves around three GCPD cops at a late night diner, discussing their interactions with Batman that they’d had that night. The first cop speaks of a surreal and mysterious Batman, who saves a man about to commit suicide before swooping off into the night. The next cop speaks of a brutal and violent Batman, who stops an armed robbery, acting very tough and menacing. The third cop, who’s the guy who Batman found chasing the kids, tells of his encounter with Batman, which is what this fact is about. The great part is that the other two cops don’t believe the third cop’s story for a second—they find it impossible to believe that the almighty Batman would ever shed a tear. It’s a super good issue that really explores the multifaceted personality of Bruce Wayne/Batman.
