BATMAN NINJA: Well, I watched this. Can I say it’s had good animation and pretty designs, yes...but that’s it. The story was utterly illogical, the things that happen get stupider and stupider. There’s no characterisation, personality or any link to the source beyond a very superficial visual one and the names. I highly recommend not watching this, but if you still will there are spoilers ahead... ...I was grudgingly willing to go with “we are Ninja who have a prophesy of a Bat man coming to lead us”, but it gets progressively more and more stupid. That each villain had their own kingdom, then that Joker had a giant robot castle, then that all of them had one, then that the buildings became mechs, then that the mechs went together like a morphin’ power ranger machine... all that was unbelievable and devoid of any logic or investment from me, then the bit where the million monkeys made there own giant construct was so ridiculous and stupid I had to stop.
The thing about this sort of thing is that it isn’t just not good, it takes something you like and presents it in a terrible way.
I thought it was going to be “what if Batman had emerged in feudal Japan?” And interesting Japanese versions of his villains emerged too. You know Batman is a ninja, cat woman’s a mysterious Geisha, Penguins a rich Yakuza crimelord, Joker’s a crazed Kabuki actor or something, Deathstroke is a Ronin that sort of thing and that’s just off the top of my head! Not they fall thought time and play dress up!
