Have you ever thought about what it would be like to be a police officer? If so, have you signed up for our Women in Policing Event on Sept 26th @cambriancollege
Meet Sergeant Sherry Young. She is a graduate of the Sport and Physical Education program at @laurentianu.
She commenced her career with the Greater Sudbury Police Service in 2002.
Sherry has had the opportunity to work in a variety of roles within the organization, including Community Response (such as bike patrol), Criminal Investigations and her current role assigned as a Supervisor in the Uniform Branch. She has taken full advantage of her assignments to create and implement new initiatives including the Community Alcohol Safety and Enforcement Initiative to enhance alcohol awareness and the safe service of alcohol; she has mentored 14 students with the MKWA opportunity circle; and is involved with the Intercultural Ride Along Program which is in its 5th year. The programs’ strategy works towards breaking down barriers and increasing comfort levels between the international students and the police.
Sherry has a passion for fitness and healthy living and brings that enthusiasm to the workplace. She is a positive role model and can often be seen in the fitness facility either working out or conducting a fitness test on a member or police candidate. Sherry is also an active member of the Health & Wellness Committee where her PhysEd Degree and role as a Certified Fitness Appraiser are a valuable asset!
Sgt. Young’s effective analytical and problem solving abilities have proven effective in her proactive policing approach. Her excellent work ethic, positive attitude and leadership continue to be an asset to the organization and our community.
