BEING A NERD, WATCHING NETFLIX AND LIKING SUPER HERO STUFF DOES NOT MAKE YOU LAZY.
In 2014 I started watching Arrow on a lark. It showed up on my Netflix queue and I ended up marathoning the whole first season in two days. Because I saw Stephen Amell killing it as an action actor, I got major inspired to start training like The Arrow - pullups, pushups, parkour and more! While I haven't become an incredible acrobat or a ninja warrior, I do have thousands of hours of experience training in Filipino Martial Arts like kali, escrima and arnis. Thanks to teachers like JB Jaeger of MD Jeet Kune Do and Felix Cortes of Filipino Combatives who wanted to see me bring FMA to the limelight, I drank from the firehose and have been pursuing excellence in these arts ever since. Thanks to thousands of hours of practice with badass training partners like Abra (pictured here with me), including traveling to the Philippines to drink it from the source, I am now confident enough to share these beautiful movement drills and attack patterns with people who want to get up, move and fight like an action hero.
But it all started with me binge watching a TV show on Netflix , featuring an actor who pushed himself past his limits and transformed into the real life version of his hero.
So does TV make you lazy? Or does it give you a chance to meet that one hero who might inspire you to change your life for the better?
Just like anything else in life, it's not the gift you are given that matters, but how you use it.
