Beyond this point the Thira to Oia walkway changes completely from a paved pathway to a gravel trail. This little glade of trees is the last shade you will experience if you are walking in the afternoon. Just as I took this shot, a voice behind me asked: "Why are you taking photos & not buying a drink?" I turned to see the owner of this little set up lying in the shade of a tree. I apologised explaining I had used all my cash at my last stop. He was a little gruff with me. I told him I'd come a very long way to see his beautiful island. "Where are you from?" he demanded, still a little grumpy. New Zealand, I answered. A huge smile completely transformed his face. "Kiwis are good people," he beamed, "very good people." I'm sure we're a mixture of good and not so good, just like everywhere else in the world, but now probably wasn't a good time to mention that. Instead I thanked him as I waved goodbye and headed purposefully back out into the bright sunshine toward Oia

I was wondering whether or not to renew my RAA membership for roadside assistance, I think this will confirm my decision. Tow truck and cab all organised!
