I agree it is not the clearest picture. I did however want to catch the moment. On a cold cloudy winter day, out of no where pops up a rainbow. I must say I hate winter and the cold. I got dumped via a text today and my heart hurts.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I was meditating and taking this hilarious time lapse and when I came out of it, I saw the text.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I used to say I didn’t want to meditate because the cats drove me crazy while I was trying to sit still and i thought I needed a quiet room to make it work. And then I learned about meditating and realized that the whole POINT is to be able to be still and observe when there is chaos around you. So I always feel them but never sure what they’re up to, and now I know! ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ What you can’t see is Prudence violently rubbing against me for attention, and clawing into my leg a few times. I just observed and let it happen, without preference for like or dislike.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I am doing the same with this heartbreak. Observing without preference for like or dislike; looking for inner peace when there is chaos outside of me.⁣ ⁣ I can say 100% confidently that I can walk away from this relationship proud as fuck of my integrity and my vulnerability. I nailed exactly what I’d been working so hard to be able to nail, and that means I’m truly able to have the kind of partnership I’m looking to have.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ 🦋🦋🦋

Anxious minds are rarely silent, so how do we find the time to heal mentally? This was a question I was faced with daily the past few months. I was going day by day, crawling, DRAGGING just trying to make it O N E M O R E D A Y without having a meltdown. Last month while I was at the edge of tapping out, I had a friend reach out. She recommended I start meditating and sent me and app called Insight Timer. . . . . . . Omg y’all! I know God sent her my way because this app has changed my life! Its a library of different guided meditations and they even had a “beginners course” for us newbies! Um yes please! I had always written meditation off as “woo woo” and “hokey” but it was just because I didn’t know anything about it!! I never realized the actual healing process that occurs when you give your mind a B R E A K. I'm a liar, I lied everyday for years telling myself that it's going to get better. This anxiety is going to go away. When in-fact I allowed it to become my identity. . You see - I hated the anxiety! But I loved it! I hated the panic! But I loved it! I hate the label! But I loved it! I hated people didn't understand! But I loved it! . Anxiety became who I was, I was no longer me, and because of this, I went through the motions of trying to "fix" me. But the problem was me! And it was destroying me! It wasn't till I hit rock bottom that I decided to strip myself from who I became and took my healing seriously! I got into counseling, worked through my trauma, hurt, anger, etc...and started doing the consistent work to heal. Eventually my true self was rediscovered and anxiety no longer controlled my life. Does that mean I still don't struggle? NO! I still struggle! The difference is, the anxiety isn't me! . If you want change you gotta to be the change or you'll stay the same. . I’ve always enjoyed getting outside. I’d say I’m an outdoorsy gal! But usually when you hear that, they mean like camping, hiking, getting dirty, etc. K...I’m an outdoors gal in the sense of I like being outside! I don’t NEED to be fishing, hunting, camping and all that. I just need to be outside! A simple walk will do! ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• There are SIGNIFICANT health benefits to getting OUTSIDE! Study after study shows it can improve a number of health issues: vitamin D levels, improves happiness levels, mental health, and it’s a huge help in de-stressing. When mixed with exercise being outdoors can have similar effects as medication for some. WOAH! ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• Try taking some of your workouts outside! Don’t work out? I have a secret for you. God is especially fond of you. The real you. Not the “church” you, or the “Christian” you or the well-behaved you. Or the you that does everything right, and who reads your Bible every day and serves every week and gives money to the poor. You don’t need to do those things to earn Gods love. He is fond of YOU... The you that secretly judges others in your head, the you that feels selfish with your time and your money, the you that doesn’t trust or hope... the you that is anxious and doesn’t always believe... the you that yells at your kids or your spouse... the you that has a rough past that you would be ashamed to admit... the you that’s living that rough past right now... the you that doesn’t even know who Jesus is... He is fond of YOU. . . . I think it’s time to break this belief in our hearts that we have to be “good” in order for God to be fond of us. (And I think it’s a pretty important distinction to make between God loving you and God being fond of you. Because I think we hear that God loves us all the time, but you hardly ever know hear that He’s fond of you...most of us walk around thinking God doesn’t really like us and spends most of His time being disappointed in us...) But the opposite is true. He is especially fond of you. He delights in you. He favors you. He is addicted to you. He is passionate about you. Let these truths sink into the deepest parts of your soul and plant them in your heart... Because what would we be like if we lived like we believed this? ❤️
Bek has always been one of my biggest role models and motivators for helping me believe that I could make a massive, massive positive impact in the world. . She did everything so gracefully and accomplished so much in her 31 years of living. For as long as I can remember, I always wanted to be like her and make her proud. . Things have changed. Bek isn’t going to be able to see me make that massive, massive impact, at least not from this world. . . But one thing hasn’t changed, and that is that Bek still motivates and inspires me every day to work my ass off and put a huge dent in the mental health universe. . I never thought about losing a sibling. Somedays it hurts a little. Somedays it hurts a lot. But everyday it has and will continue to inspire me to help those who are struggling, to find joy and fulfillment. . Pain is inevitable. It comes in all shapes and sizes. You can’t outrun it or make it go away. But you can learn to handle it when it comes, and still live a good life. . I’ve always had an impossible time validating my own pain. Always telling myself my traumas or experiences “weren’t THAT bad,” always comparing my pain to others’. And especially when it comes to things I find difficult or challenging that others do with ease, I tend to beat myself up even more. . I was thinking about some of those things today and realized that while my way of handling and doing things may not be what everyone else is doing, or even be as efficient, they allow me room to develop other skills. . For example... I’m terrified of driving on highways BUT I avoid a shit ton of traffic and stress that way, and I know all the backroads in case of jams/detours I hate calling in for food BUT when I use an app instead, I get codes for great deals and discounts on pizza The worst one of late has been unconsciously letting my selfishness create arguments with my loved ones, letting anxiety convince me no one loves me, and letting my depression keep me from moving forward BUT these are all opportunities to better myself. Every time an argument arises, every time my ego tries to take the wheel, every time my insecurities try to hold me back, it’s an opportunity to step back and look at the situation and say, “No. I don’t want to do this again” and react in a way that truly reflects my intentions. . There are some fantastic Instagram accounts that offer help and support, but there are also some you may wish to avoid. Choose what you read wisely. If you choose to immerse yourself in misery, problems and no hope for the future, you can. It's not hard. There are many people who've been posting about how awful life is for years. Go back through their posts and you'll find the very same "life is crap" posts from ages ago. Just remember that you become what you think and what you choose to experience. I completely accept that you may feel obliged to offer help and support yourself. That's a selfless attitude to take, well done. But if you're still battling your own demons you just may benefit more from identifying yourself with people who are working hard to recover and to live a better life. Human beings are in essance "group" dwellers. We identify with certain people and regard them as"significant others", meaning that we want to be like them, to be accepted by them. Who do you want to be your significant others? Could you be a significant other? Here's another view.... one account I saw recently has 50k plus followers, and every single post is about how dreadful life is. The account is several years old, the same depressing message repeated over and over. Does that person really want to overcome their anxiety? Or is their anxiety the very thing they need to promote to keep their followers? Honesty is painful. I make absolutely no apologies for it. Choose life. Choose recovery. Choose who you follow wisely. ANXIETY - How do we make sense of something that doesn't make sense? . We sometimes put labels on ourselves to provide some false sense of understanding about what we’re confused about. It acts as a comfort blanket and simplifies complex is-�sues that we're unsure of or unedu-�cated in. I'm not boldly stating that you have been misdiagnosed, and that I am contradicting the views of a trained medical professional, but what's remarkable about what I have found in my research is the importance strugglers place on possessing a medical label to make sense of what appears to be a complex problem. . A large proportion of the anxiety strugglers I have worked with use these labels to make sense of some-�thing they fear, therefore taking the 'edge' of an issue that they find in-�credibly scary. There are so many people out there talking and promoting intermittent fasting. While doing research I have discovered that there are amazing benefits to intermittent fasting. . . That being said, I strongly believe it’s not for everyone. 🙅‍♀️ . . I often talk about how I am not for a one-size-fits-all diet and how we all need different food. That also includes intermittent fasting and when you should be eating. ⏰ . . Roughly about a year ago I tried intermittent fasting for a couple weeks. I discovered it didn’t work for my body. It left me shaky, irritable, like all my nerves were standing on end and it triggered my anxiety. 😬 . . With research, I discovered most (not all) people who struggle with anxiety are probably also going to struggle with intermittent fasting as it can interfere with our blood sugar. . . I have heard that you can slowly ease into intermittent fasting and that may work. . . For me though, I choose to eat a healthy breakfast. This is what my body wants!! 🍎 🍳 🥞 ☕️ . . So my point is, eat what you and when feels best for you! . . Ignore the people who tell you should be vegan or you should eat meat or you shouldn’t eat before noon. . . I counted down the days until winter break, and I’m a little unsure what to do now that it’s here. If I’m being honest, I’m the most comfortable under pressure, under deadline, under stress. I don’t like it, but I know what to do there. When time stretches out in front of me with no clear purpose, I feel uneasy and, like a little goblin, my anxious tendencies start to peek through. 👻 〰️ I’m trying to be nice to myself when I decide to sleep a little extra or (gasp!) *enjoy* some much needed downtime. But it is engrained in me that I should always be productive, proactive, producing. I know that’s not true, so I’m trying to brush off that annoying little voice when it pops up. 〰️ Though I deserve relaxation, I also want to be intentional so that I feel like I’ve honored my time off and done things I don’t normally get the chance to do when school and work are in full swing. So I took myself to breakfast yesterday because I am good enough company. I enjoyed matcha🍵, oatmeal, and the back catalogue of a new-to-me podcast (oh hey, @bythebookpod 👋🏼). And it was damn delightful. 〰️ I’m thinking of making a holiday break “do it if you want to” list. Definitely not a to-do list, more of a to-maybe list. A list of options I can pull from if I’m in the mood to do something, but nothing is top of mind. Have you ever tried a to-maybe list? What would be on yours? 📝

Warning...soapbox! . One of the biggest issues many of us have when dealing with anxiety, is the labels society puts on us. . However, what I've found is that many of us label ourselves with the same labels we can't stand. In-fact, we go one step further, we allow these labels to define us, and become who we are - our identity. So we live life with I'm OCD, PTSD, CPTSD, BPD, Depression, Panic, Social Anxiety, GAD, etc... . Then we wonder why coaching, thearpy, medication, exercise, prayer, etc...doesn't work! Why? Cause we've allowed our struggle to be our identity. And identity is much more difficult to change. . So what do I do? STOP defining yourself with what we struggle with...start by saying I struggle, deal, have an issue with rather than I got, have, am, so, etc...there are many other things that we can do. Honestly, I thought people who were "outdoorsy" in high school were a little far out there. Growing up in New York, there wasn't all that much "nature" around me (except the beach) and people rarely slowed down for anything. Needless to say, I DEFINITELY didn’t understand the healing and restorative power of nature and the outdoors. It wasn't until I moved to other places in the country that I really came to understand how much my environment and aesthetics really help me feel gooooood. Now, it’s one of my go-to ways to chill out on a tough day, or any day, really! Ya never know what you'll learn when you put yourself somewhere totally new and unfamiliar. If you’re feeling stressed, anxious, impatient, sad, WHATEVA, I would really encourage you to get outside! Get some fresh air. Post up at the beach, lake, in the mountains, at a park.. the details don’t matter. I find a new favorite spot everywhere we go. ANXIETY - Let's try to simplify our manifestations. . As we can see, the umbrella symbolizes anxiety as a whole and the ‘rain drops’ symbolize some of the components or symptoms that form an anxiety condition. Instead of trying to deal with every issue or symptom separately, I encourage you to try and allow all of our worries to be associated with anxiety. . This not only simplifies the problem, it allows room for reflection and a point of ‘blame’ if life simply becomes too much. . The key here, which forms as one of the core foundations of my coaching, is to group everything as one problem - the problem being the simplified term ‘anxiety’. Try and take everything that you’ve ever assumed and worried about with regards to how you feel and throw it under a metaphorical umbrella. So....lemme ask you?! 🤔 Have you cottoned on yet, I mean REALLY cottoned on?? That being of value to others and the world at large is all about tending to YOU first?? Do you fully ‘get’ that NOT looking after yourself is selfish?! SO many us are trying to people please and almost completely forgetting that we’re one of the people...and ending up tired, grumpy, lack lustre and unhappy...giving THIS version of ourselves to others. When you’re tired you’re not on form. When you’re dissatisfied you can’t fully show up. When you ain’t met your needs you can’t truly meet the needs of another. This ‘I’ll be of service to others then get to me later’ BS just ain’t working, ‘cos it don’t work. Men-your women and buddies and kids and colleagues want you showing up all full of yourself and present and giving! Women-your other halves, kids, friends and other humans are yearning for you to lead the way and teach by example that self-care is loving and wise and right. Look around 👀 how many people do you see fired up and living fully?! Hmmm not many I bet! That’s because the idea of putting yourself way down the list DOES-NOT-WORK. Fear will not want you to do this. But fear isn’t a wise guide. Love on the other hand knows the truth of this 💖 If you feel like you need some permission to do what feels good to you THIS-IS-IT. There may be some guilt-don’t take that seriously (it’s just fear in another guise). You may get some nay sayers- they’re ruled by their own fear, don’t be ruled by them. Talk yourself into knowing that it’s good to feel good. You’re supposed to feel good. And when you do, you DO the most good 💖 With so much love, Zofie 💖🙌✨ Tag a friend or loved one who needs to hear this 💋 Oh, and finally....one thing I know-for-sure is...that thing you love to do...whatever that thing is...you just gotta do at least some of it- otherwise it just eats you up from the inside. Leave people better than how you found them. I remember after my ex-boyfriend cheated on me ALL I wanted to do was see him after I lost a bunch of weight. I wanted to “show his dumb ass what he lost”. ✨✨ I wanted to get fit then rub it in his face...then I got fit and I didn’t even care to see him. I remember actually seeing him again and not thinking twice. My mom was in and out of jail. She even lost my siblings because she was unsafe. I experienced that episode “inside”. In my sleep I can still sometimes hear her yelling. I am 24 and noises scare the heck out of me. I watch movies on silent and read the subtitles. For the longest time I slept in an awkward fetal position, somehow it felt safer than all sprawled out. A couple weeks ago in a counseling session I was told a very similar story about another person and for the first time in my life I felt heard. I felt understood. Life is precious and it is so fragile. It needs to be protected.”. . . . Crazy how different our experiences can be... here we see the truth behind how what happens to a baby’s mother while he/she is still in the womb, can have a massive affect on the child after he/she is born! 😭💛

I used to be addicted to coffee and depend on it for energy, it was wreaking havoc on my adrenals, and making my anxiety worse. When I ate sugar, within an hour my mind would be racing, I’d feel irritable, anxious and panicked. After a night of drinking I would feel extremely depressed the next day, sometimes this would last for days or even weeks. But I didn’t realize how these stimulants (caffeine, sugar and alcohol) were making my anxiety and mindset so much worse. Like a tidal wave with no escape, no where to hide, no where to run, and the feelings of dread that overtake me is unbearable. . So, I brace myself for the suffocating effects of the onslaught of panic and get ready for the emotional beating. . However, this time (as I've learned & now coach) I allowed myself to feel the rush of emotion-accepting it, welcoming it, embracing it, and what was once a tidal wave is now just a wave-still crashing mind you, but the after affects are much, much different. . When my oldest kid was about 3 to 5 days old I took him for his very first pediatrician visit. The Dr looked him over and checked everything out that he was supposed and gave me my brand new baby back and told me he was as healthy as could be. Yay! I thought the Dr visit was going to end here, but it didn’t. He asked me to sit down and wanted to talk to me. “Now, how are you?” he asked me. I’m thinking this is so weird, we are here for my baby not me, but I decided to answer him anyway. “Good, except for being tired”. He nodded like he knew this is what I was going to say. He then said, “Your number one priority right is to take care of you.” WHAT??? Heck no, my number one priority is taking care of my baby, this guy is crazy...is what I was thinking. Either my face gave me away or he has been told that before...or both. He then continued to say “If you are not taking care of yourself, you cannot properly take care of your baby. You might get sick or you might snap at him. Your son needs you to take care of him and the only way you can do that is if you take care of yourself”. Yeah, we had such a great and wise pediatrician! I will never forget those words. Because of those wise words, I have always made sure to take care of myself so I can take care of my responsibilities properly. Yes, being a mom makes it difficult most of the time, but it has to be done. Self-care is a necessity, it is not selfish! . . Tuesday’s are my busiest days, most weeks I don’t have time to post. But I just wanted to share one thing with you all. Throughout my journey as a Christian, the Bible has been more of a task to check off my to-do list than something I enjoy reading. But there have been a few verses that have helped bring me hope and soothed my troubled heart. This is the verse I always go back to. The one I remind myself when I am feeling the most anxious. The truth that anchors my soul to safety... “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” -Romans 8:38-39...
