There are only eight million other things I should be doing right now, but a #budgetmeeting
with myself seemed appropriate this morning. 🤷🏼♀️
Yes, you read that correctly. My dogs have a checking account, debit card and all. .
This is for a few reasons. First, they get an allowance. (Seriously, though. #dogsneedjobs
Hire them!! Someone! 🤣) This allowance pays for everything from vet visits and pool time to new toys and dog food. I needed a place to put their allowance so I wouldn’t have to worry about overspending. If they don’t have the money, they don’t get the toy. .
Also, it’s better than insurance. So many people have told me I should get my dogs pet insurance policies since they’re getting older and visit the vet more often. Guys! NO!! I don’t even want my own insurance, but I have to have that. Haha! What happens to the money you pay for monthly premiums when you never go to the doctor? YOU LOSE IT! EBMS has never cut me a check for not using my insurance that year. I’ve wasted all of that money. It’s no different for your pet! .
And third on the long list of reasons I’ll never buy insurance for my dogs: Insurance doesn’t even cover everything. And it only pays half of most things. I’m still paying for the vet, but now I’m paying for a policy too. No thanks. .
Instead of buying some costly insurance policy, put that $20 a month into a savings or checking account that earns interest. First, you’re earning money back on what you set aside for them. Second, and this one’s bad but it needs to be said, when they die, I can just close the account and get my money back. Can’t say that for the insurance policies. .
You don’t need insurance for your pet. You just need to save money to cover the costs of the vet visits. .
And now my sad confession: My dogs usually have more money in their account than I have in mine. 🤦🏼♀️🤣
