We are creatures of meaning, and because of that we have an innate sense to feel like we mattered.
Growing up I had an interesting experience with relatives demonstrating a wide contrast of either being completely judgemental of a homeless person or someone who was “perceived” dangerous but the reality was the person just had a physical deformity, OR it was the opposite in that they treated every person as a human being that just needed a touch of empathy and kindness.
With that exposure I learned that everyone needs a little bit of help sometimes, because you don’t know the battles they are going through.
And then when it comes to your family and friends, because of a higher level of connection in the relationship, no matter what is going on, you still show them how much they mean to you, even if they may have done you wrong in some way, but have the awareness to do it with healthy boundaries.
SHOW people what it means to feel that they matter, because sometimes it can be the difference between life and death.
