How much time do you spend online? Is it taking over your life? I remember when I was an undergraduate I really grew fond of online research. If I thought anything was wrong with me, I would look it up online. I did this obsessively and eventually starting to diagnose myself with so many things. I started to email doctors and tell them what I had (based off “research”) and set up appointments. .
In 2 years, I went to the doctors about 30 times and when they said nothing was wrong with me, I went back the next week to “doublecheck”. They kept giving me antibiotics after antibiotics because I kept coming back complaining and each time, I kept taking them, they prescribed me not because I actually had the illness but because I said I have it. .
What made me stop self diagnosing and stop looking up things online was when the things I started diagnosing myself with came into fruition. (There is definitely power in the tongue). I did get that ear infection, I actually got the cystic acne, and a host of other things. I say all this to say, The internet is cool but make sure to be careful on how you use it and what you take out of it. As much good as it brings, it can also bring the opposite. I no longer conduct research online for every little thing, when something seems off I just put it into prayer and go about my day.
