We’ve been talking about #inflammation
a lot these past few posts, so let’s dive a little deeper, and #biohack
some homemade anti-inflammation. The inflammatory response is made up from #prostaglandins
1, 2, and 3. Prostaglandin 2 makes up the actual inflammation. Prostaglandins 1 and 3 make up the #antiinflammatory
response. Keep in mind: all stages are needed for healing to ensue! The inflammatory response is the body’s defense mechanism to immobilize to commence healing (sprain, break). 1 and 3 obviously reduce the “heat”. Precursors to #prostaglandin1
are: omega-6 fatty acids, such as pumpkin seeds, evening primrose oil, sunflower, and safflower oils;
: omega-3 fatty acids, like hemp, flax and fish oil; and:
: saturated fats, typically from an animal source.
It is to be acknowledged that plant sources of omega-3s are only absorbed by a small amount of the population. Take flax seed oil, for example. Those that can absorb it only have about a 2% conversion rate to the usable omega-3 source. A more bioavailable method (fish oil) might be more practical.
When we see an abundant influx of unhealthy omega-6s, like in the case of canola oil, soybean oil, etc, these oils are actually funneled down the PG-2 pathway, up-regulating the inflammatory response. No bueno, don’t eat these.
It’s actually possible that you’re deficient in #omega6oils
. How? Many people focus on their #Omega3s
, and not their HEALTHY Omega6s. These corn/soy/rancid oils don’t really count. Ya need somewhere around a 3:1 (omega 6 to 3) ratio of healthy sources to conquer inflammation.
and other #NSAIDs
actually work by down-regulating the PG-2 pathway. Want to do this naturally, and stop destroying your gut and liver? Simply eliminate #arachidonicacid
sources for a few days (animal cholesterol) and you should see somewhat of a reduction.
Hopefully some of these facts offer insight into your quest to fend off inflammation. Have any recommendations for others? Post them in the comments! I love learning new things too, and anything to fend off #systemicinflammation
