The Parthenon, Acropolis
September 15, 2015
That one time when we were on our self-described #AncientWonders
trip, and I was recovering from a 24hr bug/food poisoning episode (rare for me, really), but I powered through our single day layover in Athens. It was either that or a stupidly long wait at the airport, and I'm always one for making the most of my traveling time.
Despite the short time frame (and my weakened state), it was well worth it to see the structures from my old art history books come to life. A temple dedicated to the goddess Athena, the #Parthenon
was the height of Classical Greek architecture, and the pinnacle of the #Doric
order. Though many of the structures at the Acropolis were under restoration efforts, it was still a wonder to behold.
Thank goodness I found Gatorade there (ha!) and luckily it was a wonderfully sunny day.
