The Yankees fall 11-6 in the series finale to the Boston Red Sox but still take 2/3.
Masahiro Tanaka started the game and had a rough outing. He lasted just four innings and allowed five runs. Here’s his final line: 4.0 IP, 8 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 0 BB, 3 SO, 1 HR. The bullpen also had a rough outing. David Robinson threw a scoreless fifth. Chad Green allowed two runs in the sixth, one of them tied the game at six. Dellin Betances allowed an unearned run in the seventh. Aroldis Chapman made his first appearance since August 21st and he struggled with his command. He also allowed a 3-run home run. Jonathan Holder got the final out of the eighth. AJ Cole got the first out of the ninth. Stephen Tarpley got the the final two outs of the ninth.
The Yankee were trailing 3-0 going to the bottom of the second. Luke Voit got the Yankees on the board in the second with a long 2-run home run into monument park. That was his 10th home run as a Yankee. The Yankees are now the first team in Major League history to have 12 players hit at least 10 home runs in a season. The Red Sox got a run right back in the third. Then in the fourth, Giancarlo Stanton blasted a go-ahead grand slam into the seats in right. That was his 35th of the season. The Red Sox then took a 8-6 lead in the seventh and added three more in the eighth and unfortunately the Yankees couldn’t do anymore damage against Boston’s bullpen.
