The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced the news they were expecting their first baby after arriving in Australia for their first royal tour as a married couple.
And it appears this is a moment Meghan has planned for.
The royal mother-to-be told Hello! in 2015 she had bought a “special” heirloom piece to give her child.
She said: “I’ve always coveted the Cartier French Tank watch - I totally splurged and bought the two-tone version
“I had it engraved on the back, ‘To M.M. From M.M.’ and I plan to give it to my daughter one day. “That’s what makes pieces special, the connection you have to them.” The engraved initials on the stylish £5,000 timepiece have sparked suggestions the pair are to have a daughter her name will begin with the letter M.
Betfair Spokeswoman Katie Baylis said: “Meghan’s loose coat at Princess Eugenie’s wedding on Friday led to speculation that an announcement was imminent and now that we have it, the Royal Baby name game starts. “However, with months until the baby is born, those odds will shorten, change and other names will come to the forefront, so watch this space.” It was revealed Meghan, 37, and Harry, 34, shared the big news to the rest of the Royal Family at Princess Eugenie’s wedding on Friday.
The Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh, the Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall and Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are said to be "delighted" for the couple.
The duchess’s mother, Doria Ragland said she was “very happy about this lovely news” and “looks forward to welcoming her first grandchild”.
