I gave this a watch last night. Trauma. In Chile, 4 ladies go away for a break that turns into hell. An evil and fucked up father and son duo break in and do very nasty and fucked up shit to the poor women which causes the women to take revenge to the extreme. And boy it's satisfying watching this revenge! I wouldn't say this is more extreme that A Serbian Film, but it is dam near close. It hasn't been submitted over here but I'm making a prediction right now: there's no fucking chance in hell the BBFC are passing this one uncut! They won't outright ban it, but it will be cut quite heavily if it is submitted to them. The abuse of the women is horrible and very nasty, the BBFC won't like it one bit. But it's not violence for the sake of violence. There is a story to this. And, like A Serbian Film, is a political metephor based on the evil Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet and how his army treated the people of Chile in the 70s. The father and son characters are obsessed with the dictator and living in the past. They are very horrible characters though. Apparently one of the actresses cried for two days after filming the abuse scenes. She wasn't harmed for real or anything (The ladies were well looked after) but it was the idea of what happens in that scene disturbed her so much she cried for two days. It was actually the actresses choice to make it so extreme. They knew they were dealing with horrific subject matter (rape, torture and murder) so they told the director to make this movie as extreme as possible. And he didn't hold back! Lucio Rojas is a director who has balls! This is real horror. Hardcore, balls to the wall horror. The movie is Spanish with English subtitles. Very low budget (200,000) but beautifully made and very well acted as well. Do I recommend it? Yes if you're into these movies. But if you hate these types of films then stay well clear because this movie is not for the faint hearted.
