1 year ago today, this special girl came home with us. We didnt know if it was a male or female, we only cared about getting her to a safe place. Since Ronies for the love of birds is a safe place & we didnt change the store name, it seemed fitting that we would call her Ronie. She officially became the boss bird & the inspiration for many rescues, projects & programs.
Overcoming the foot injury she had when we found her, she received her nickname "Hopper". She is rarely sitting still & we don't mind one bit. We love how active & healthy she is now.
When we found Hopper, her wings had been the victim of a horrible butchering but 1 year later, she is almost fully feathered again.
Fresh cut watermelon, blueberries and kiwi is her favorite thing to eat ( this week) Toucan diets are 90% fresh fruit & Hopper is very picky on what she will eat.
Needless to say, this last year Hopper has overcome a lot. We knew she would need a lot of love & care but we didnt expect the care & love she has taught us.
Happy 1 year Gotcha Day Hopper!! We love you!
As with any parrot/ bird, if you are considering adding a bird like Hopper to their flock, please educate yourself and be financially ready to provide them with all of their needs. Toucans are delicate and their level of care is very high.
