JOAQUIN PHOENIX'S THE JOKER (BTS)
Director of forthcoming Joker standalone, Todd Phillips, unveiled on his Instagram, a camera test of Joaquin Phoenix's The Joker in make-up a day ago. This caused quite the row online as every Tom, Dick and Sally (feminism) couldn't wait to chime in.
My only question in all this however is this - What is it about The Joker that excites people? Why is the character so "beloved" that the mere mention of the name threatens to set the internet ablaze. This better be a surefire smash for Warner Bros considering the villain's drawing power. They have a veritable golden egg in their hands here. Fingers crossed they don't shit the bed per usual fashion.
Judging by Joaquin Phoenix's involvement and some of the publications regarding the elseworld film though, I doubt they will.
Just some hours past as well, TMZ released a set footage of The Joker emerging from a train and catwalking off the subway scene with full-on pandemonium in his wake.
Todd Phillips, whose directorial credit also includes 'The Hangover,' shouted out Zazie Beetz on his handle with a first-look of her character in the movie. Watch the clip to the end for a glimpse.
Seeing as this iteration by Phillips is an origin story, it follows the evolution of the Clown Prince of Crime into his full form of The Joker. The villain also now wields a government name that is rumoured to be a wink and a nod to the outgoing Dark Knight actor in Ben Affleck. The Joker here is thus also known as Arthur Fleck. Abbreviate the 'Arthur' and you have A. Fleck.
Joaquin Phoenix's The Joker plays in theaters October 4, 2019. Hopefully it packs a full house.
