A couple of months ago, I came down with a kidney infection. It was super painful, so I took some time off for rest and relaxation. My husband—being the incredible partner he is—took over my dog-walking, grocery-shopping, food-prepping duties so I could cuddle up with a book until further notice. He would have cooked any of the super-nutritious recipes I so often prepare for us, but all I wanted was takeout. On day one of my recovery, I paused long enough to realize I had eaten nothing but gluten-free quesadillas and brisket fries. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The old me would have used being sick as an excuse to eat whatever I wanted—after all, it was nourishing my soul. Right? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Um, wrong. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It’s important to note here the old me would have also gorged myself on said gluten-free quesadillas, and followed my binge eating up with a few days of guilt-laden calorie restriction. It was a wild ride back then. But this time was different. This time I paused long enough to take inventory of how I was feeling both physically and emotionally. Did eating the brisket fries feel good? Yes. Would eating four more days worth of brisket fries and comfort food feel good? So today was... interesting at @wclifting . Deload day 2 on paper looked pretty ordinary and everything was going smoothly and routine, low block cleans 2x2 at 50kg/110lb, no hook/no brush cleans up to 50, and then I got to pulls. Pulls at 65kg felt good. My inner @coach_jb_wcwl was like hmmm can I clean this? Should I try to clean this? #WWJBD ?! LOL 😂 so I tried. And I was SO. DAMN. CLOSE. I pulled plenty high enough, I think my chest just came down and I didn’t commit to catching (I think I like shocked myself that I was even holding it LOL) it but it gives me faith that it’s there, I totally have that weight. Learning to #kiteboard has been... stressfully wonderful? 😂 • Despite the frustration, #kitemares , and tears, this process has really highlighted the things in myself that I need to work on. And that's *so* valuable. I'm seeing a lot of recurring themes come up, despite the difference in environment and activities. I'm not just learning a new sport. What a difference almost a year makes! - I'm in shock and really dont know what to say😱 I have been working so hard on myself and getting me to where I want to be. Battling my inner demons made me feel like this journey wouldn't have a happy ending at all. These are the same pants from a year ago. Maaaaan I always laugh at this pose it’s so #basic 💁🏻‍♀️😆 and everyone does it even when they don’t have any biceps poppin such as myself. I only write that because I CLEARLY have my own insecurities of losing muscle mass which is why I even felt the need to say anything about it I have anxiety in my chest just thinking of sharing this photo🤔my biceps were bigger just a couple months ago and my strength was excellent BUT I totally had to re vamp my workouts because lifting heavy was causing my body to have so much inflammation due to my Candida overgrowth which then worsened many many other things with my health. My Hyperthyroidism and hormonal imbalance started FROM my #candida . Absolute nightmare especially when trying to lose weight, since giving up the heavy lifting and getting in a nutrient dense shake has done wonders for me including aid in my weight loss over these past few weeks 🙌🏼 really hoping I can start lifting heavy again because I miss it Ohh so much!! 😩 #Candida is a total joy killer I have a lot of up days and a lot of down days all due to dealing with my health issues. But I just have to keep truckin along because quitting fitness isn’t going to make anything better. #progressnotperfection all day long I preach this to my clients so I suppose I should take my own advice huh 🤔

Officially lost over 40 lbs since August 10th. The weigh-ins before @cplpower nationals I weighed 334 lbs, that night I assume I put on at least 10 lbs eating a ridiculous amount of carbs, and protein bringing my weight to 344 lbs. Over the last month and a bit I’ve weighed myself every so often, and the first was August 19th (329 lbs), September 6th (316 lbs), then last night September 18th. My focus has been getting my daily steps, eating healthy but not like a robot (I had my splurges), I’ve increased my reps and limited my heavy weights, and really tried to improve my sleep. My goal is to get to 250lbs by 2019 and then go from there. I’m aware of what impact being a SHW did to my body, although I was extremely functional under the bar I struggled with breathing, zero mobility, and couldn’t take part in outdoor activities that I love. Fitness isn’t just about being a beast, and killing yourself for those PBs. It’s about enjoying what you do, feeling good about yourself in and out of the gym, enjoying life to the fullest. 🚨 Ladies what if I told you that you can build a booty and STILL train the rest of your body? 😵 And that it can be done even if you don’t own a magical band to put around your thighs while you do everything? 🤯 It’s true! No piece of equipment or particular exercise you see a bubble butt girl use on social media is the key to success. Using it every day isn’t the key, either. They’re tools but that is all. Butt muscles grow like any other- lift heavy, concentrate on the squeeze, and they will grow. Not trying to throw shade, but if the tiny girl with a donk swears she never lifts heavy, that it’s all banded kickbacks, it’s a gentle reminder that everyone has different genetics that play a role. No hate towards her, but don’t beat yourself up over why it’s not “working” for you. I wish that my husband had grown up feeling safe. 1 year, a decent haircut, and 300+ hours in the gym later, finally I'm happy with my physique for the first time in a while, so thought I'd post a couple of before pics and a few recent pics to show my progress in the last year and as a little celebration for becoming a certified level 3 personal trainer. How about an Indian inspired healthy dinner tonight? This recipe hit the spot- and I have leftovers in the freezer for last minute meals. Instant Pot Chicken Tikka Masala 🍗🥘🧡 1 14.5oz can diced tomatoes 1/2 cup full fat canned coconut milk 2 t Garam masala 1 t cumin 1 t fresh grated ginger 1/2 t onion powder 1/2 t smoked paprika 1/2 t turmeric 1/4 t cayenne 1/2 t salt 1 1/2 lbs boneless skinless chicken thighs 4 cups cauliflower rice 1/4 c chopped fresh cilantro Combine first 11 ingredients in a medium bowl. Place chicken in Instant Pot and pour sauce over top. Secure lid and close pressure valve. Set to 20 minutes at high pressure. Allow pressure to release naturally before opening. Microwave cauliflower rice for 3-4 minutes or until done. We talked about how there is no such thing as perfect. Seriously guys, if you’re striving for perfection you are fighting an uphill battle. Whether that be in the way your house looks, how YOU look, what you eat, how you live your life, etc. • Someone had emailed me saying she couldn't get onboard with the "feel amazing perfect image” that she thought I was projecting. Thing is, this isn't what I project at ALL. I know many of you here know this about me. I talk about my anxiety, my childhood, my past experience with acne and how that left a huge mental scar, the turbulence that is life with two young kids and a mortgage and a business, that I've had postpartum anxiety twice, the fact that I'm under huge amounts of stress this year, the fact that I don't eat perfectly etc. So I wanted to bring this up in the call today as it's crucially important that, as women, we don't pretend we are perfect. I think that does a HUGE disservice to other women. • A friend of mine shared this quote recently: “Sharing the trials and turbulence of the deepest moments of our lives with others helps build a healing web for all” - (Dr Gulrukh Bala). I couldn't agree more. • We didn't just talk about perfection, (or lack thereof) in this coaching call. We also spoke in length about gut health.
