We only get to see our favorite Christmas Anemone in Day Care Bay on Perry Island during a minus tide. We visit it every summer, sometimes twice, but due to a small craft advisory during this last low tide we missed our last opportunity for the season. We love this guy and think it’s quite old due to its size ( about 14-16”). You can probably guess why it’s called a Christmas. It is terrible and achingly beautiful at the same time. (No, that’s not why it’s called a Christmas although Christmas sometimes feels that way too).

Alaska rules. I think I’ll stay. 👋🏻
No one is quite sure why salmon jump while congregated in bays like this. Perhaps it’s to prepare for the journey upstream, maybe they are full or pent up energy or maybe...just maybe it’s for fun. 😉
Staying at #whittier
last night at this “#glacierview
” condo suite #begichtowers
at 15 th floor. The parking lot is not paved but beautiful with the #waterfall
. Really worried about the stay at this building as its old and no fire sprinklers. The door seems secured and clean. Gradually fell asleep yet can hear the #train
horn whole night last night. The town looks busting but only have 200 residents and most live in this tower. Wiki said it’s the wettest place in the US has some 200” annual rainfall. It’s a little fishing town and gateway to #princewilliamsound
. Going to explore it today. Though hotel is nothing much I have to pay 200 for a night but it’s so unique, came thru the 2.5 mile #antonandersonmemorialtunnel
is worth it by itself. Will check the ferry to see if it’s feasible to travel to #valdez
. Remember #exxonvaldez
As wonderful as I think people are, it blew my mind to learn that the anatomy & function of an orca’s brain suggest that orcas are better than people at the attributes that I’ve always felt are what make people “people”. This idea is supported by this week’s news of Tahlequah, a grieving orca mother who lives about 2000 miles south of me near Seattle. Her calf died a few weeks ago & her grief took the form of pushing the lifeless body for 17 days, traveling over 1000 miles in the process. These creatures evolved socially and I believe that as deep as the emotions of humans are, orcas are built to feel things more deeply. This isn’t a picture of her, but it’s an image of an orca that I feel blessed and humbled to have been able to spend some time around earlier this year.
Sea otters are looking at us!! They look so cute, but nobody knows their real characters 😋😏🤨 and they are smart to know that they’re stars ⭐️🌟✨ and I feel like we are in the small cage in their lands 😘😘 it’s foggy and so beautiful beyond you can imagine #princewilliamsound #valdez #valdezalaska #seaotters
That’s a wrap on this summers industrial yachting of Prince William Sound. Baby, I’m coming home !
"Life is like the ocean. It can be calm or rough, still or raging, but in the end it's always beautiful." Do you enjoy calm seas or big waves?
"He always thought of the sea as 'la mar' which is what people call her in Spanish when they love her. Some of the younger fishermen, those who used buoys as floats for their lines and had motorboats, spoke of her as 'el mar' which is masculine. They spoke of her as a contestant or a place or even an enemy. But the old man always thought of her as feminine and as something that gave or withheld great favours, and if she did wild or wicked things it was because she could not help them. The moon affects her as it does a woman, he thought."
