Key messages and top tips on gas safety are: if you smell gas don't use any electric switches or naked flames, open windows or doors to ventilate, turn off your gas at the gas meter unless it's in a basement (follow today's safety tips!), get your grab bag and evacuate immediately, call 0800 111 999.
