This is one of the first things you hear when you start out your fitness journey. So is this actually true or not? Let's look at the science : . . . Fat andย muscleย are two different types of tissue, and one cannot be converted directly into the other, this has been proven in different controlled researches. Muscle tissue is mostly made up of protein, water, andย glycogenย (a form of carbohydrate), whereas body fat is mostly comprised ofย triglycerides(bundles of fatty acids). So an apple cannot suddenly become an orange right? Right. . . . So what happens then? When you start exercising, you experience what is called "body recomposition" which is simply that your fat cells shrunk and your muscles got bigger, hence you appear leaner or "toned"( a word I hate ๐Ÿ˜ฉ). Actually what happens when you exercise especially resistance exercises or weightlifting is you train muscles, when muscles are trained, the muscle fibers tear. During rest periods, the fibers heal and the muscles grow. The fat cells shrink mostly because they're being converted to be used for energy , and the muscles accelerate fat burn too. . . . So...
