Want a stronger lock out on your Deadlift? How about a heavier Squat? ~ A common mistake I see in the gym is not progressively overloading exercises outside the three main lifts. (Squat, Bench, Deadlift) ~ Don’t be that person! Don’t leave precious gains on the table and muscle to be made by skipping heavy accessory lifts. ~ If you're the person who has no gas left in the tank after you've completed your squats or deadlifts then you need to rethink your program. You should be able to hit a main lift and have energy to spare for 4-6 accessory movements. If your daily focus is only to train your big 3 hard and heavy... you're going nowhere fast. PRs will be hard to come by and your CNS will be constantly crushed. ~ My go to accessory movement to work my hips, strengthen my glutes, hamstrings, and core.... HIP THRUST! ~ These are not just for booty poppin IG chicks. Day 345: When you are in doubt! Take a picture. The truth is, I still have a hard time seeing my progress. Some days things feel different or just look differently but my body is transforming in it's own way. My stomach area will be the hardest part to tackle because of my digestive problem. 🔥Dumbbell Romanian deadlifts or stiff legged deadlifts are great for building your posterior chain. - This exercise teaches you how to slowly lower the weights with control movement. - Similar to the kettlebell swings, here are common errors of the movement. - If you are not feeling it in the hamstrings and butt, try fixing your technique. - You always want a slight bend in your knee without keeping them completely straight. Too much of a bend will end up shifting the movement towards a squat. - 🚫Excessive lean back again will just hurt your back. It will not activate your glutes more. - Also, not locking out at the hips is common. If you just want constant tension in the hamstrings, then this is fine. It's not for everyone, but it definitely can be beneficial when considering your schedule, fitness level, etc., but always pick a split that you can maintain and enjoy consistently! . Dani @physiotrition put together a great plan and has some really great points regarding a full body routine, check it out and let me know what you think 👇 ➖ FULL BODY SPLIT🏋️ 🔥The final split in my 3-part series is the Full Body split. I feel I may get a lot of confused comments on this one so please read the full caption before commenting. A Full Body split is the most optimal way to train IF you can only go gym 3 times per week, which I know a lot of people only can. If you can go 4 or 5 times a week I’d recommend some variation of an upper/lower or push/pull/legs split🤙 . 🤔However, Full Body training can still be very useful, especially for beginners to intermediates. Advanced lifters may struggle in hitting their MEV, using this split, but for a beginner this shouldn’t be a problem. As well as this, the split can be great for developing strength. The principle of specificity simply states that to get better at a given task, you must perform that task. As obvious as it sounds, this can have great implications in strength increases (Wilson et al., 1996). A full body split normally leads to you performing some form of squat, bench and deadlift 3 times a week, thus aiding in strength development💪 . 🔬Finally, if you have some concerns with training volume of certain muscle groups (particularly arms and delts), they are activated quite a lot in most compounds, with EMG data verifying this (Saeterbakken et al., 2017, Youdas et al., 2010). This split also allows for an extra isolation day of arms and delts if needs be, with most people training Monday, Wednesday and Friday on this split. These sessions can take time, but from anecdotal experience, it is a very fun way to train and is even endorsed by some professional bodybuilders (Alberto Nunez etc)🔥 ➖ What split are you currently doing? . When training I think exercise selection is an important factor to consider when creating a plan. We cant just go ham and lift the heaviest weights and the hardest movements everyday. Even if we think we're giving our muscles enough time to recover between sessions, our central nervous systems probably can't keep up. This is why I think it's important to not to always do a Max effort bench/press 3x a week but throw in some cable/dumbbell/resistance band work to supplement the tougher lifts.
