The biggest mistake people make when they work abs is that they don't think about breathing. - Most people perform ab exercises when there's a lot of air in their stomach still, preventing their abs from contracting properly since the air acts as a cushion. This is why people don't see any difference in their abs even if they work abs every day. - Breathe in when you are at the start of the movement (whether it is crunches, sit-ups, leg raises, etc.) and slowly breathe out as you contract your abs. 𝘿𝙪𝙢𝙗𝙗𝙚𝙡𝙡𝙨 𝙑 𝘽𝙖𝙧𝙗𝙚𝙡𝙡𝙨 by @fbodyfitness - They are both great tolls in your muscle building toolbox, but knowing the pros and cons for each can greatly improve your training program. - First up… …Dumbbells (DBs). They are: ✅ Safer to go to failure on because you can dump them easily at the end of a set if you miss a rep. ✅ Allow more freedom of movement as your hands are not fixed in place like on a barbell. You can rotate your hands and shift from wider to narrow throughout the range. ✅ They ca help to even out muscle imbalances because you can work each side independently. ✅ DBs are better for high(er) rep work. Don’t test your 1-rep ma DB bench press!!! Getting really heavy DBs into position can waste a lot of effort and pre-fatigue you before a set starts. This is NOT good. For the most part, only do sets of 6+ reps with DBs. If you find your hips popping up off the bencher and that you have to grind out the first rep of a DB bench press…you messed up! - Now let’s take a look at Barbells (BB): ✅ They are easier to incrementally add weight on. You can go up in small increments week to week efficiently. Adding 1.25kg a side is simple enough. Unlike with DBs which generally jump up in 2 or 2.5kg increments per DB. Meaning you are lifting 4-5kg more every time you try and make a jump up in weight. ✅ BBs are great for strength development in compound lifts. This is where they shine! If you want to do some lower rep work then they are an ideal choice. Doing sets of 5 or less is pretty much only advisable with BBs. - To conclude: ❌ Don’t go too heavy with DBs! 🔴Variation🔴 . Props to @davisluupt and @coachkrisseko for helping engineer this variation. We don't have a machine with the double-pulley available so this is as close as we could come to re-creating a Double Lat Pull-Down. . The 'Line of Pull' is interesting here because it's not a straight forward vertical pull. The benefit to this exercise is that you can alter which back muscles are targeted more, simply by adjusting your seating position and also how upright you sit (degree of leaning). . When it comes to variation I'm cautious. We know that sticking to a movement pattern and progressively getting better at that movement yeilds good results. But every now and again I like to integrate a new stimulus to a muscle group because I never want too much adaptation to a training program to be achieved. . This exercise is different to any back exercise I currently do. . Execution tips - . 1. Grab the opposing handles (right hand left handle, left hand right handle) and sit almost directly under the cable line. . 2. Retract and depress your shoulders after grabbing the handles and squeeze your back at the bottom (this is the peak contraction point of the movement). . 3. Allow your shoulders to get out of that retracted and depressed position to further stretch your back muscles under load (but always maintain tension). . Give this one a go guys! Feels great and I know you'll love it 🤙.

Muscle Building Workouts By @musclemonsters _ There is no “best” workout routine, only best training principles. If there were a “best” workout, then we’d all be on it and we’d all be making amazing gains. But that’s just not the case – there are far too many variables, and, in that sense, everyone is different. You see, if I told you a 3-day full-body workout was the best, but you hated training your entire body every day, chances are you wouldn’t maximize your results with that type of training. Similarly, if I told you that you had to be in the gym 5 days per week, but your life only allowed 3-4 days, then you certainly wouldn’t be able to get the most out of a 5-day training program. Truth is, all of these training routines work…and they work well. But not because of the way they’re split up, but rather, due to a few simple principles. _ 1. Progressive Overload: if you’re not getting better, you won’t get bigger. _ 2. Training Frequency: you’re hitting each muscle at least twice per week. _ 3. Heavy Compound Movements: you’re building your body, not just your biceps. Focus on the exercises that give you the best ROI on your time in the gym. _ 4. Enjoyable: are you primed and excited to train? If you are, I guarantee you’ll be performing a lot better than you would if you HATED your program. _ 5. Realistic: If you only have 3 days to train, why bother going for a program that prescribes 4-5 days?
